Great Staff!
During the time my family member was there, the staff was wonderful, could not do enough for us. Once they left all the response was different and that the reason the overall experience was not good. Send several email with no response.

Our Experience
My husband was a resident at Seasons at Southpoint for a very short time. Worst place ever! The nurses didn't undress him for a night sleep and didn't help him with the bathroom. I was told before I brought my husband to them that he would be allowed to use a commode to go to the bathroom, but the nurses told me that he was supposed to go to the bathroom himself. He couldn't even walk by himself and ended up soiling himself. The nurses also didn't wear masks or gloves when they distributed medication. One of them had very long nails and couldn't pick the medications up with her fingers. The food was so bad that my husband didn't eat it. My husband also didn't receive regular insulin shots and after a few days at this facility, he was taken to the emergency room with blood sugar of 460! I decided to bring him home after that, rather than sending him back to Seasons. We opted to use Homecare services instead. The bookkeeper of this place didn't submit the correct paperwork to the Long Term Insurance and the insurance didn't cover the amount of $[removed] for the month and $[removed] for the room. Altogether $[removed] that nobody returned to us.

I toured Seasons at Southpoint during my search for a Memory Care facility for my loved one. The cleanliness and friendliness were good. However, I didn't like this facility quite as much as I liked some of the other places that we toured.

Very pleased with the community
The friendliness of the staff team is something that we enjoy most about this community, they make it apparent to get to know the residents by name as well as the families. The give excellent quality of care to the residents, and overall we have been very pleased. They seem to have different activities going on throughout the days, our loved one really enjoys signing along with the piano player. The value is excellent and we would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

Convenient Location
[name removed] was a great nurse and kept us well informed. She went above and beyond to ensure that our mother was well taken care of. And we were always informed. We would have liked to see them keep the facility a little bit cleaner. But really it's the people in the place that make all the difference. The people there tried very hard to make our loved one feel welcome and transition well to the environment.

Peace of Mind
I highly recommend the community. They have been wonderful and caring towards our loved one. This has been a great fit for our loved one. The staff communication with the family has been very open, and responsive to our questions to make sure the family is comfortable. There are three meals a day served to the residents and there are choices for the residents to choose from. Some of the activities available include games, arts and crafts, and more for the residents to choose from as well.

Under-staffed, lacking adequate supervision, and failure to deliver even a minimum of care
'The untrained and disinterested staff will not even wear the name tags they were supplied with. There is staff supervision only part-time Monday-Friday. No meaningful night supervision from attendants asleep at the nursing stations. I witnessed a naked man with dementia lying on a hall floor for hours. Medication supposedly delivered by med techs, but often skipped - especially at night. Strangely enough the food is often adequate and of good quality. No regular nursing or nurse- practitioner visits.

Friendly staff. Easy to work with.
The staff were very friendly. The facility was nothing fancy but acceptable. My loved one didn't get a shower for over a week, so I don't know what went wrong there - although I know if you ask her does she want/need a shower, she always says no. The staff we met seemed really nice and conscientious, so perhaps it was because she was there for a respite stay. They also didn't do her laundry until the end of the two week stay. So maybe she just wasn't on the rotation for those things yet. The move-in and move-out process went smoothly. Because it was a new situation for her, it was a difficult transition, but that's not their fault. I think it would have been a pretty good situation if they had been more aware of her bathing needs. Overall we would send Mom there again and be more clear upfront about the bathing.

Seasons at Southpoint my not be the most beautiful community but we really appreciate just how attentive the staff members are. The place is always clean - it smells so fresh you can tell they clean it constantly and efficiently. Whenever we leave we feel very comfortable with leaving our loved one there. The activities we would say are appropriate for the population. We have not had a regular meal there but we did have a meal at a big event they put on and it was delicious.

All Memory Care Facility - Recommended
My loved one was only there a short time, a month or less. Covid also limited my ability to interact with and experience the community. It's strictly a memory care facility, so going in there, I knew my loved one would receive whatever care he needed without having to move up in levels in care. In dealing with them from a business standpoint, they were very good. They were helpful in making move-in preparations, and the people at the front desk made a big impression on me. Everyone was very friendly, which was one of the main things that really attracted me to the place. I know that there were activities scheduled, but I never got to observe them. The cost was competitive or even a little less expensive than other places, but we weren't there long enough to determine what the value was like.

They really do care!
They have been able to engage our loved one during this time with a few activities, they have church service which is very important to our loved one, and she enjoys the baking classes to. The sales person we spoke with in the beginning really took the time to answer our questions, she was very patient with us and was very helpful. Our loved one says the food is somewhat bland, and is in the same routine.

Great Choice
When my husband arrived at Seasons of Southpoint a month ago, he was cognitively confused and somewhat depressed. After a month's care at Seasons, he is very alert and aware. He is happy, getting mobile daily and enjoying the community there. I contribute it all to the entire group. A Caring, supportive, conscientious, accommodating crew...from the staff to all employees. They are all "awesome." He has an excellent physical therapist...working to get him back on his feet, every member of the team at Seasons work to make the residents experience there a positive one and they "all" do a great job. My husband is happy. joy and hope has come back to his eyes. Thank you Seasons of Southpoint family. [Name removed]

Seasons Brings Solutions and Peace of Mind to Adult Children Caring for Elderly Parents and Family Members
After four years at Westminster Canterbury on the Bay, in Virginia Beach, two of them in Enhanced Services or Assisted Living, I brought my mother to Durham, NC, near my home, after she suffered mini-strokes and required a different level of care. With her doctor's blessing and encouragement, I found a placement for her initially at Carillon on Durham on Garrett Rd. [Name removed] is the Executive Director there. Regrettably, mother's experience there was not a happy one, despite many caring individuals. I followed my intuition and immediately had mother placed on the waiting list at Seasons of Southpoint. She lived at Carillon from 10/15 until 12/16 and moved to Seasons on 12/16/2018 where she currently resides. She no longer lays in bed all day in backward clothes and underwear in disarray but is "clean, sweet-smelling and sanitary," enjoys meals like soup, shrimp and crabcakes, plays bingo, participates in movement activities, walks, is building relationships with other residents and staff and more! The strength of the adaptive Montessori activities program and its director, [Name removed], are major strengths of Seasons, as are its Executive Director, [Name removed], and other key personnel. All of the areas appear to work together congruently, smoothly. The system appears cohesive. The medication aids and nursing assistants work to have a team spirit. This was NOT present at Carillon. While Carillon identified its problems and is making changes, it was apparent to me that there was much disarray, disorganization and discord present in the Gardens (Alzheimers) unit and elsewhere, I suspect. Know that there IS NO PERFECT WORLD in LTC. However, Seasons of Southpoint is as close as it gets. It more than meets mother's needs in ALL of the areas above and in some cases FAR MORE than the having all of the "bells and whistles" provided at Westminster Canterbury on the Bay. One highlight of both Westminster Canterbury and Seasons is its workforce, including dietary, housekeeping, health care, activities, and other personnel. Again, the Executive Director, [Name removed], may be the glue that is responsible for the smooth operations of Seasons. While staffing is a problem throughout the industry, it appears that Seasons has a handle on how to manage staffing quality, stick to consistent scheduling and not run "short-staffed" on an on-going basis. This is a gift. Now, after nearly two months, I am relieved, largely, from the weight of the dismal experience at Carillon. It was a wrenching, angst-filled experience requiring me to exercise my Christian compassion, understanding, patience and WISDOM to help the staff at Carillon but to know the choice I had to make in the best interest of my mother. I hope I made a difference there, even as we left for Seasons. Interestingly, the Carillon CEO has not responded to my correspondence. Sincerely, [Name removed]

A caring place
My wife has been at Seasons for about 2-1/2 years. I have been very happy with the care she has received, as it has appropriately changed to meet her needs as her disease has progressed. All of the staff are extremely caring and friendly. They coordinate well with the Doctors Making Housecalls and Hospice staff in providing care. The facility is clean and bright and inviting.

Seasons At South Point; Don't go there.
I would NOT recommend Seasons At Southpoint in Durham, NC if your loved one is important to you. Instead, I would recommend private care at home to give your mom and dad the attention they deserve, and also Hospice if your loved one qualifies. My mother was at Seasons for one month before we moved her back home. I live out of State and came to see how she was doing. I visited with mom for two weeks, usually for 2-3 hours, and at different times of the day, to get a feel for the care she was being given. Some days I visited twice. Dirty bathrooms, the smell of feces, (repulsive) ragged sheets and pillow cases, the lack of name tags on All the help, didn't make me happy but could have been easily remedied. It was the poor attitude and treatment from 2 of the med techs, their ineptness at identifying my mother's agitation and pain and their refusal to medicate her with the prescribed hospice medications that made me realize this was not how I wanted my mom to spend her last days; alone, afraid and in pain. I requested a meeting with the clinical nurse in charge with one of the aforementioned med techs and I was told they didn't do that. The disappearance of my mom's emerald ring that she never took off was the icing on the cake. I advise you not to leave anything valuable with your loved one no matter how much it means to them. It will disappear. My mother is now at home with care 12 hours a day. It costs less than Seasons but we have peace of mind. She has 3 caregivers that she responds well to, her color is better and she is now smiling. She no longer refuses food or drink. She may not be able to express herself, or remember things but she gave me life and I love her.
