Medicare does not include coverage for Long Island independent living rent, as these facilities are not considered long-term care facilities. Nevertheless, Medicare can provide coverage for care services at-home care in medically necessary short-term situations. Medicare is a federal health insurance program that serves individuals who are 65 years or older and those with certain disabilities. Independent living is not regulated as a senior care community in New York. The New York State Department of Health makes it explicitly clear that it does not regulate this particular type of facility.
