Live Oak, Texas

Assisted Living

An assisted living community is a residential living community which administers support, care, and assistance to medically stable persons who do not need skilled nursing support. The services provided often include assistance with the activities of daily life. Residents may be kept under observation and evaluation. In certain cases, communities may provide respite, hospice, or “aging in place”. The state of Texas has a number of stipulations related to this type of community. The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) licenses several types of assisted living communities certifies this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care, general supervision or oversight, assistance with activities of daily living, and activity and/or social program for residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 10 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as a comprehensive assessment , must address the residents individual needs, preferences, and strengths, and interviews, and home visits. Staff members obtain training in a variety of subjects. These areas include basic emergency first-aid, skills for working with residents, families, and other professionall providers ethics, resident assessment, and community resources. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide at least three balanced and nutritious meals or the equivalent per day, The meals must be served daily, at regular times, with no more than a 16-hour span between a substantial evening meal and breakfast the following morning, Therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s physician must be provided according to the service plan, and exceptions must be specifically approved by the Department. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include supervision of a resident’s medication regimen, returning medications to the proper locked areas, and obtaining medications from a pharmacy. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1115 demonstration managed care waiver program–called STAR+PLUS.
