An assisted living community is a residential living community which provides aid, support, and supervision to independent individuals who do not need skilled nursing services. Assisted living communities often offer care supervision, opportunities for recreational activity, and aid with transit and appointments. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment of each applicant s health, social accommodations, cognitive needs, and preferences. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. Staff members obtain education in a variety of subjects. These areas include service plans, safety, medical emergency procedures, and recordkeeping.
