Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide organized living communities and assistance for your loved one who may require support with everyday activities such as meal preparation or bathing. Assisted living communities commonly provide outings for organized activity, aid with transportation and appointments, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide nursing care, respite, or dementia care. In New Jersey, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . New Jersey has a number of provisions related to this kind of community. Department of Health and Senior Services licenses this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan updates regarding changes in physical or cognitive states, routines and preferences, a health care assessment, and nursing needs. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include provide three meals a day, maintain a standard of food preparation that meets the needs of residents, and prepare meals and snacks based on the Food and Nutrition board’s recommended dietary allowances. Public assistance is available through 1115 Demonstration Waiver program–Managed Long-Term Services and Supports. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include monitor dosage, supervise and assist with self-administration of medication, and administer medication. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include dietary services, limited nursing care, social work services, and recreational activities. Staff members receive education in a number of fields. These areas include abuse and neglect, infection control/prevention, caring for residents with impairment, and pain management. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents.
