Assisted living communities have the luxury of regular social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individual help. The types of service offered often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide hospice, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $9,292 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $8,373 . Michigan maintains specific rules associated with this type of community. The Department of Human Services licenses licenses this type of community. Staff members obtain education in a number of fields. These areas include safety and fire prevention, reporting requirements and documentation, personal care, and first-aid. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative, service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident, A comprehensive written assessment that that describes prescribed treatments and medications that must be provided to the community prior to admission, and The service plan must be updated annually and following a significant change in health status. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include three daily meals and snacks must be provided, Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, and communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assisting a resident to keep appointments, medication management, being aware of a resident’s general whereabouts, and supervised personal care. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications, reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, and medication supervision and administration.
