Assisted living communities provide residential living communities and assistance to persons who require a helping hand with everyday activities such as taking medication or dressing. Assisted living communities usually provide aid with appointments and transit, chances for recreational activity, and care supervision. In some instances, communities may provide hospice, dementia care, or respite. The annual median cost for a private room is around $111,508 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $100,481 . The state of Michigan maintains a number of stipulations associated with this kind of community. The Department of Human Services licenses licenses this community type. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident, service plan identifies the individual’s need for activities, The service plan must be updated annually and following a significant change in health status, and service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. Staff must receive training in a number of areas. These areas include reporting requirements and documentation, residents rights and responsibilities, staff training program based on the residents’ service plans, and staff training program based on the home’s program statement. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication management, supervised personal care, being aware of a resident’s general whereabouts, and assisting a resident to keep appointments. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional, three daily meals and snacks must be provided, and Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council.
