I like all the staff.
I would highly recommend Storypoint Portage to others for their loved ones. The care the staff provide really stands out to me. From the restaurant, to the management to the nursing staff and more they truly care for the residents. They are on top of the game, before you think of something they are already putting things into action to best suit the residents. The food is good, and the meals were served in the resident's rooms to the resident's rooms during the pandemic. The food that was delivered seemed to be meant for the residents that had some dietary restrictions. When I brought up some of the food my loved one likes and dislikes, they immediately made the change for my loved one. Some of the activities available include walking club, art, music, exercise, special themes, field trips, and more for the residents to choose from. The room, housekeeping, linen changes, meals, reminders, and laundry services are included in the monthly price. The staff are good at getting the residents and bring them to activities. There is a weekly manicures and mimosas. The three ladies that run the activities program are wonderful!
Small rooms, slightly messy areas ( desks, lobby etc) and no place for my mom to enjoy a nice walk outside led us to look elsewhere. And my goodness the tour was much too “ high pressure” for our liking. Do your research, folks.

Hello Mary, Thank you for your review. We consulted our team and have no record of touring you. Based on your review, we believe you may be reviewing the wrong community, as our community is very tidy and has plenty of walking paths that our residents take advantage of daily. We do agree that everyone considering a move to senior living should do their research and we are available if you have any questions about our community. To learn more, please call us directly and ask to speak with our Community Specialist.
It's a good place to go if you have to do some place. The one bedroom is smaller than I thought it would be once we moved in.

Hello, Thank you for leaving a review. We appreciate that you like StoryPoint Portage. We usually recommend families tour our community, see their potential apartment and get the square footage information before moving in to avoid any surprises. If you have any questions about your apartment, please consult our Executive Director or Community Specialist.
We were surprised at the lack of community within this facility. It seems to just be a standalone apartment building next to a highway with a neighborhood backed up behind it. We toured three different locations over the weekend and feel Story Point got last place. Friendship Village was the winner in all areas. The layout was much better, but more importantly, there were many things my father would be able to do to keep him busy right on site. He’s most excited about the swimming pool. Several of our family members looked over reviews for various facilities, and were concerned with all the similar reviews left for Story Point by residents. We didn’t find that type of duplication with the other places we toured. That would lead us to believe that maybe StoryPoint is trying too hard? Just a thought.

Hi Kim, After consulting with our team, we have found no record of anyone touring recently with your name or with comments that align with yours. With that being said, we would still like to address the concerns in your review. In regards to fostering community, our residents enjoy a robust life enrichment schedule that includes many opportunities for socialization. We agree that looking over reviews is important when choosing a community, which is why we always encourage people to provide feedback. Our reviews come directly from our residents, family members, and people who have experience with our community, so any "duplication" you may see is simply a reflection of the consistency we provide. We work very hard to provide the best experience possible for our residents and are in constant pursuit of improvement. Although we are proud to be the home of many happy residents, we understand that our community may not be the best fit for everyone and are happy that your father found a good community for him. If you have any other feedback that you would like to share regarding your experience, please call the community and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you.
I was completely captivated by the care and attention the staff provided the community as we walked through. In addition, the amenities and activities are tempting me to look into moving early.
The community is beautiful and very friendly. Everyone was very helpful.
Absolutely beautiful community. I saw many happy residents. [name removed] is a super host. Highly recommend this community for events and living. Thank you
A very good experience. Would be happy to tell others about this community.
Beautiful place. Very well kept, highly organized and maintained. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable.
Great tour. Most informative. Learned a lot of things.
Interesting tour; enlightening information; knowledgeable people; nice community; great people.
Light, airy, well planned many activities for residents, very friendly staff.
The community is very very nice and our tour was complete as we toured rooms, all areas, dining, etc. All very neat and well kept. The meal was excellent. I would suggest the community to those who I know who might need such a place to reside.
Very enjoyable tour and wonderful dinner.
I’m not sure what causes this location to lose so many great employees. Even well before Covid, it seems like I would talk to my mother daily and she would frequently tell me that sadly one of her “Favorites” was no longer there. She had a great bond with the Executive Director “A” and the shuttle driver , “ J”. It’s unfortunate that great employees can’t be retained.

Hello Allison, After consulting with our team, we cannot determine a correlation between your name and our community. We understand the concerns that come along with employee turnover, but we work hard to fill our team with dedicated and compassionate workers. Even while facing the staffing crisis of the pandemic, we have a large number of team members who are committed to providing the best experience for our residents. If you would like to further discuss your review or any suggestions you have, please call the community and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you.
Our family moved our father to Storypoint in April, 2021, & we moved him out at the end of June. Was a very traumatizing experience for my father & all family members. The memory care unit is very short staffed, often with just one care giver for 20 residents. It’s hard to keep all residents safe when ratio is 20 to 1. My father, who is wheel chair/ bed bound, suffered falls, etc. Many of the caregivers pulled me aside & apologized for the short staffing & the inability to take care of the residents. My father is on hospice & each time there was an incident regarding my father his case manager documented it, as required by law. Unfortunately, Story Point did NOT.....no record to be found. When hospice staff inquired, the response was, "there was no incident". We learned a big lesson.....the way things "look" & the way things "are" are two very different things. Please do not send your loved one to memory care at Storypoint. Our Father is now at [community name removed] & it is wonderful!

Hello Martha, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our community. We agree that the pandemic has brought with it unique challenges when it comes to staffing our team with the most dedicated and compassionate individuals. Despite these challenges, we staff our memory care neighborhoods based on the highest guidelines identified by the state. Having said that, a lot has changed since your loved one was in our community a year ago. We have built up a strong leadership team to support our wellness team so our residents are getting the care they deserve. We do value your opinions and believe learning more about your experience will only help us improve. If you care to discuss your review with us directly, please call our community and ask to speak with our Executive Director. Thank you.
I could go on and on about the dishonesty and unethical practices at StoryPoint Portage, but there would need to be much more space available. Asking elderly residents and those with memory issues to give 5 star reviews is dishonest and unethical. No, StoryPoint, they are not willingly posting reviews, you are TELLING them to post and they are vulnerable and scared that their care will be compromised it they don't do as they are told. SHAME ON YOU! Senior Advisor...do the right thing and remove this flood of 5 star reviews from residents. This is NOT a 5 star facility.

Hi Irene, After consulting with our team, we cannot find a correlation between your name and our community. We also have not received any complaints that mirror what you described. We encourage all residents to leave feedback if they are able, but this is never something that we would force. We are a community that welcomes all resident feedback as an opportunity for us to improve. We are proud that our residents give such high remarks, but we would like to connect with you directly to learn more about why you do not feel that they are deserving. Please reach out to our community, and ask to speak with our Executive Director to further discuss. Thank you.
We came for a visit from the Chicago area and were very disappointed. The location is not what the advertising suggests. The building is near a very busy freeway on one side and a vacant home on the other. The person we spoke with on the phone weeks prior at another location ( [name removed] I believe) sounded more like a used car salesman than someone we would trust with our loved one, so we didn't want to be tied down to a high-pressure tour. We visited a former neighbor there "undercover" I guess you could say. This type of environment might be great for someone who stays in their apartment, as there isn't much to do according to the sweet lady resident we spoke with, but definitely not right for our MIL. We wasted a day trip, but were glad we checked thing out.

Hello Caroline, We definitely agree that it is important for families to tour potential senior living communities they are considering for their loved ones. We typically don't experience families visiting from across state lines without connecting with us first. We believe to make the most out of a community visit, a family deserves a full tour of our building so they can see model apartments, activity spaces, storage space, our salon, and other awesome areas in our community. We pride ourselves in creating our activity calendars with our residents' help and ideas, but we also understand that our community isn't for everyone. We are disappointed that you didn't want to meet our team, get a tour of our beautiful community and ask any questions you have about life at StoryPoint. If you would like to give us direct feedback about your visit, please call our community and ask to speak with our Community Specialist or Executive Director.
