Assisted living communities offer a sense of community as well as individual support. Assisted living communities often provide aid with daily activities, help with transit and appointments, and supervision of care. In select cases, communities may offer “aging in place”, hospice, or respite. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 49,200. Indiana maintains a number of stipulations related to this type of community. Indiana State Department of Health supervises this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include resident must be observed for effects of medications and undesirable effects must be documented and the resident’s physician notified, distribution of prescribed medications, and preparation of prescribed medications. Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program. Staff members obtain training in a variety of areas. These areas include emergency procedures, demonstration of equipment, ethical considerations, and detailed review of the appropriate job description. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation must be updated at least semi-annually or when a significant change in condition occurs, community will identify scope of care based on evaluation, A comprehensive assessment, and a negotiated risk plan will be established. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include a nursing diagnosis, activities and programs appropriate to residents’ abilities and interests, executing a minor regimen based upon a nursing diagnosis or as prescribed by a physician, physician’s assistant, chiropractor, dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, or nurse practitioner, and comprehensive nursing care. communities must consider residents’ personal preference meals may temporarily be delivered to the resident’s room
