Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide a sense of community as well as personalized help. Assisted living communities usually provide care supervision, outings for organized activity, and help with transportation and appointments. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, skilled nursing, or continuing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this type of community. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, and A comprehensive assessment. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, medication reminders, and supervision of self-administered medications. Staff are required to receive training in a variety of areas. These areas include job responsibilities and limitations, self-determination, promotion of dignity, and residents’ need and service plans. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include housekeeping, assistance with activities of daily living, supervision of self-administered medications, and medication administration. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3.
