Assisted living communities offer organized social events and apartment style housing as well as personalized care. Assisted living communities commonly offer opportunities for leisurely activity, assistance with transportation and appointments, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, hospice, or nursing. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include laundry, security, supervision of self-administered medications, and housekeeping. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reading the medication label to residents, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and medication reminders. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Staff members obtain education in a number of areas. These include: philosophy and goals, choice, self-determination, and independence. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, and assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition.
