Assisted living communities provide residential living communities and assistance for persons who might require help with self-administering medication or washing. The types of service offered often include help with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as dietary restrictions, residents preferences, initial comprehensive mental and physical assessment , and activity restrictions. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance with medication administration. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living, physically safe and sanitary environment, transportation, and protective oversight. Staff are required to obtain training in a number of fields. These include: environment and fire safety, activity or care planning, management of residents’ finances, and Administrators must complete a 30-hour training program approved by the Department.
