An assisted living community is a residential community which provides care, assistance, and support to self-sufficient persons who do not require skilled nursing services. The types of service offered often include aid with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In certain instances, communities may offer dementia care, respite, or continuing care. In California, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $54,000 . The state of California maintains a number of stipulations related to this type of community. The Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division supervises this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance with self-administration of medications and medication administration. Public assistance is available through The state’s Medicaid 1915(c) Assisted Living Waiver program. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. These areas include knowledge required to safely assist with prescribed medications, psychosocial aspects of aging, resident supervision, and housekeeping and sanitation procedures.
