My mom was in memory care in Florida, with no family within 1,000 miles so I wanted her to be closer to family so that I could visit her and ensure she was taken care of. I looked at several homes, but settled on Summerfield based upon the layout, size, and activities. There are 3 outdoor areas where the residents can come and go as they please. The staff has been amazing and most importantly my mom has connected with 3 other higher functioning women and they walk around and talk, which is really important since my mom is still social, even though she can’t recall what happened or what was said 2 minutes prior. Summerfield is also very active with activities and they truly care for the residents, even the ones who can’t do much on their own. They move them out of their rooms and have them at all of the activities even for the residents who aren’t noticeably engaged. I feel very fortunate to have found Summerfield. And the cost is reasonable compared to other options in the area.... Read more

Response from Summerfield of Encinitas Memory Care
January 5, 2023Hi Kevin, we appreciate your kind review. Our team at Summerfield Memory Care of Encinitas is solely dedicated to the well-being of our residents and we're happy to have your mom with us. Take care and have a great day!
my dad lives at this community and out off all the communities I have been to this past 2 years. I must say the staff are amazing. The community is clean and smells nice. There is fun and interactive activities going on. The residents are so happy. The staff members always greet me, smile, and ask how I am. You can tell that they are happy and fulfilled. The residents are clean and well groomed. The building is not brand new with all the frills, bells, and whistles. But we have already done that and It doesn't matter what they offer the care never compares to this. We thought that dad needed movie theaters, exercise rooms, and resort style accommodations. It was just not realistic. Dad didn't live like that before and didn't when we moved him. We went to 3 different larger communities and all that happened is that dad declined. He wasn't showered, medications where not give, missed Dr. Appointments the list goes on and on. Dad was left to fend for himself.

Response from Summerfield of Encinitas Memory Care
June 13, 2022Thanks for the insights, Anabel! It is nice to hear that your dad is having an awesome time here at Summerfield Memory Care of Encinitas. We will definitely share your positive words with our team, which will motivate them to keep up the good work. We feel so grateful to get such positive reviews from the families of our residents. Thanks once again for choosing us; take care.
We liked this community but there were not enough activities planned or scheduled for the residents. We wanted more for our loved one to have to do.
I was so happy with it. I think the smaller size was really good and the staff got to know the residents better because of the smaller ratios. They had a visiting doctor which I felt was really convenient. The staff always greeted me by name, and they always knew where my mom was and what she was doing. I felt like it was a more family oriented and intimate setting because of the small size. They have a beautiful outdoor area for residents to enjoy. The chef was great and the food was excellent. The staff would call me to keep me informed as needed. The caregivers would communicate what my mom needed and really knew my mom. I visited 12 different places before choosing this one and I was happy was my decision.

September 27, 2019I am the Executive Director and I am sorry to hear you had trouble connecting to take a tour. We are able to provide tours any day of the week so hope you'll visit our website or give us a call to set up another tour date. When you visit please accept my invitation to dine with us and we'd be delighted to connect you with current families who can tell you about their experience at our community. Please contact us if we can be of further assistance as you look at senior living options.
Somerford was the first facility I visited in late Spring of 2018 due to recommendations by acquaintances and Place for Mom. The Director of Sales and associates were very helpful during the search for my husband's placement, taking the time to give me a tour and answering my many questions, At that time, my husband did not qualify for residency due to an on-going treatment of his condition. As soon as treatment was concluded, he was able to be transferred. I felt Somerford was perfect with the friendliness of staff, cleanliness of the home, well=maintained surroundings and not having a huge number of residents where care of individuals could be compromised, Today, I am very satisfied the choice to place him at Somerford was the right choice,

At first, the activities, as well as the appearance was extremely appealing to me for my mother. She was admitted mid-May 2018. After time, I noticed numerous changes in staff, including the activities director. My mother and staff always have had positive interactions - to my knowledge and observation. An outbreak of scabies occurred this summer. I expressed my concern about co-mingling of clothing and linens to be laundered and the possibility of transmission, as I had found my mother wearing another's clothes and someone else's bedding on her bed. I subsequently labeled all my mother's clothing and linens. Several weeks after treatment and assurances that the epidemic was gone, my mother began scratching. I immediately, consulted with the nursing staff and I was told that the scabies was not eradicated and that all the residents would need to undergo treatment simultaneously again. Treatment includes a topical application of permethrin - head to toe - and ivermectin. These are very potent drugs (insecticides) and repeated doses are problematic, from my point of view. These are elderly people whose systems not only have to metabolize their own medications, but also very potent medications for treatment of scabies. Yet, I have still found other's clothing in my mother's room. I brought this immediately to the attention of the new Exec Director and I have high hopes that many changes will be forthcoming. Somerford is a very nicely arranged living situation with garden, patio, walkways, and activities room. Most of the staff have always been friendly and they love my mother. I which them success in making necessary changes!

Older facility. Homey, rather than resort style. No in room showers. A separate shower room is provided. Scheduled bathing routines planned, room heated. Facility was Designed by a Neurologist specializing in Altimers and Denintia care. Residents can wander without getting lost. Offers plenty, the most I’d seen of outdoor space. Pet friendly. Affordably priced. Offers no off site trsnsportation or scheduled group tours. Nurses with care hours daily, and always one one on call. Offers, visiting onsite medical care.

I toured this property while looking for a place for my Mom. I noticed that it’s a much older facility, but everyone I met that worked there was really nice and all of the residents were pretty active. Everything looked clean, but as mentioned before, it was old so it could use an update. However, I was told that they would be getting new carpet put in soon. The person that took us on the tour was very nice, they were able to answer all of our questions, and they seemed knowledgeable about the type of care that the residents needed. Overall, it wasn’t a bad tour or facility, just wasn’t right for what my Mom needed.

Somorford is wonderful for my mother. We looked at several other communities, but chose Somerford for its small size. My mother needs memory care, so I wanted to be sure she would be well taken care of and wouldn’t get lost in one of the larger places where the staff can be spread a little thin. My mother’s bedroom is beautiful and she has made such great friends. There are many activities for the residents like prayers, a TV room, bands, and singalongs. I’m very satisfied with my mother’s care, and how happy she is at Somerford. I would definitely recommend this community to others.

My loved one has been there a couple of months now and I think it is just a fine facility. I do not have any complaints about the place and my husband seems happy to be there, which is a good indication.

They did really, really well. They were nice. They were good, but they keep everyone up and she was getting tired, I wish they had the option to have them stay in bed and attended to her there. She got too weak and needed to be laying down. I checked a lot of places out and they were the best.

They just really have a great staff of nurses and caregivers. The main thing is they let my mom set her own schedule and do what she wants. It is secure and the caregivers do not make her do anything. And they have a great management team, they are very helpful. Overall it has been a great experience.

We looked at a number of locations before choosing Somerford Place. Somerford offered a much more attractive environment for mom to live, with a lot of outdoor spaces and activities. The layout of the facility is quite different from the others we saw. We also contacted families of current residents and they all spoke very highly of the conditions and staff at Somerford. We have been very impressed by how interactive the staff is with the residents, which has helped Mom adapt quickly to the new surroundings. Costs are in the mid-range of the facilities we visited, but we considered it to be a value. We are very pleased with the choice we made.

They're very receptive to our loved one's needs, and to our concerns as a family. They're always willing to meet with us at any time to discuss concerns or ideas we have about care.

I'm very impressed with Somerford Place. From the time you walk in, everything is easily accessible. The staff knows my mom by name without having to go look up any information. On any given day, they can give me updates right there on the spot about her. The place always looks so beautiful. My mom loves the food. She's able to participate in the activities they offer, such as art classes, and game time. I'm so pleased with Somerford that my dad is being transferred there to be with my mom.

They are very loving and organized and caring. We haven't seen anything they need to improve, as of yet. They are flexible in working with families. They are communicative. They have been willing to work with us. We really like their flexibility and we chose them for their geographical location.
