Assisted living communities provide a sense of community as well as personalized assistance. The types of service offered often include help with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In select cases, communities may provide skilled nursing care, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. Public assistance is available through The state’s Medicaid 1915(c) Assisted Living Waiver program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration and assistance with self-administration of medications. Staff members receive training in a number of areas. These areas include medication policies and procedures, 10 hours of initial training within the first 4 weeks of employment and 4 additional hours annually, housekeeping and sanitation procedures, and first-aid.
