Our tour of Grandview of Westover Hills
We toured the Grandview of Westover Hills. The facility had a nice outside courtyard. However, my mom was not impressed with the dining room. All of the other facilities that we toured had table cloths and nice lighting, but the dining room at this facility was plain. Almost like using card tables. Our tour guide was very professional and courteous.

5 across the board except housekeeping. I found my parents' apartment needing more attention, e.g. bathroom sink, kitchen floor needed to be swept. There is only one licensed nurse (LPN) for about 60 patients. She trains the medication techs to give meds. We went in knowing this and are fine with it because my father was my mom's caretaker.

My Opinion
I think Grandview of Westover Hills is the right place for me because it works for me. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I really like the fact that I can bring my own things. I'm very surprised at how much I like that - just having my own furniture and things. My apartment comes with a kitchenette, a microwave, and no stove; but it does have a full sized fridge and sink which is wheelchair accessible. I have a huge big window with lots of natural light and a courtyard to look out over. It's not very spacious, but my hospital bed and wheelchair fit nicely in the room. I have a dressing area and a bathroom too. For me, its quite comfortable. I would tell others about my positive experience, and it may or may not be right for you. I would tell others to come, check it out, and see for themselves.

Grandview of Westover Hills seemed like a nice facility, but I was feeling pressured by the sales director. I did not get the best vibe and just knew this was not going to be the best fit for my loved one.

Community Tour
We thought the facility at Grandview of Westover was very nice looking. The staff was helpful. But their virtual tour wasn’t as personalized - it was just pre-recorded videos instead of an actual person walking us around. We also had a unique situation with multiple pets that was hard to find an accommodation for.

tour review
Our family had an in person tour and we liked the tour, the lady on the marketing team was wonderful even before the tour. She gave us insight over the phone to help calm us, and take away any stress. She was very helpful and very supportive. However, we just did not see a lot of staff out and about which was a little concerning.

Not a Good Fit
The one bedroom apartments are very nice. This community is set up more for independent living than assisted living. My loved one didn't care for the food offered, and they didn't do a good job at handling dietary restrictions.

Homey!
Our families experience has been excellent so far - we would give it 10 stars our of 5. We really like the fact that they are pet friendly so our loved one was able to bring her cat. Most of the staff members are very friendly, the cleanliness is good but sometimes our loved one wets herself so we do wish they would do a rinse off more often but we do understand they get busy and have to take turns. Our loved one is gaining weight so we assume the meals are very good there, she is doing 100% better at Grandview.

My Personal View
Before the pandemic I visited my mom often. I never saw activities with the residents. The staff are good people and the food is good. The staff is friendly and kind. Very isolated! No interactions with the residents. I would rate it as 3 ?? s.

The virtual tour of Grandview was beautiful, a really nice facility. Watched the video from my computer, no interaction during my viewing. However, distance was the problem. Needed something closer to Wurzbach/IH10 area.

The community was very clean and in the process of renovation. Services were pretty much all inclusive rather than e trap fees for every little thing. I’m definitely going to try to get Mom in there. The only problem might be that Mom is currently on both long and short term insulin which the facility & home health can’t handle. I have to see if we can get it down to one shot plus oral meds.

Lakeside has provided an excellent place for my grandmother. The staff has always been helpful and they are kind and attentive to her needs. They have a schedule of daily activities that keeps her engaged. The facility is clean and spacious and elegantly appointed. I couldn’t be happier with how this has worked out for her.

Great place, but a few empty promises...
This is a nice place! The staff are really good with my parents. Our primary concern, however, is the fact that some of the staff are making empty promises to my parents, particularly in the fact that they constantly promise to make necessary renovations to their room, but they have not followed through.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.
