A satisfactory experience of an 84 year old patient
My wife was here for almost three weeks for rehabilitation physical and occupational therapy after knee replacement surgery. She is 84 and was already handicapped with long term posterior tibial tendinitis for 18 year. So, she needed special therapy for her new knee with care. The therapists are very well qualified, some with graduate level qualifications and are very gentle and caring. She improved rapidly with their help.
Furthermore the nurses and their aides too were also well qualified and competent. The nurse practitioner in charge has the highest possible education and is very helpful if contacted. The every one does whatever is needed wether or not it is her job. For example the nurse will take away your empty dinner plate or remove garbage can if no one is there. No one says “not my job”. The kitchen staff will do whatever you ask them. This is important for a vegetarian like my wife. I am delighted with Cadia without any reservation. We love the staff and like to thank you sincerely. Their real strength is the Physical Therapy staff and the Rehab services they provide.

A Horrible Experience at Cadia
If you have a loved one who needs rehab and nursing care DO NOT send them to Cadia. in Pike Creek. My 96 year old Dad was admitted for rehab for a broken arm. Over the course of his 6 day stay they never got him up out of bed, it took hours to get someone to change him, we would overhear the staff talking badly about the place and some were even open to tell us that their nursing staff is terrible. Our family was there from 8am-7pm every day. We were told someone would check on our Dad every 2 hours, that NEVER happened. Several times when the PT came in for his 30 minute session, he or she would spend that time changing him because the nursing/tech staff was no where to be found. After 6 days we decided to take him out and were concerned about a cough he has developed over the weekend. The day before he was to leave we asked for a chest x-ray. We were told the day of his discharge it was ok. The result was that same day he ended up in Christiana Emergency with pneumonia.

Personal experiences
I am [name removed]. I came here from Christiana care hospital after knee replacement surgery. I am 84 And my husband is 88 and we live in Newark. We were asked to go to a Rehab facility for physical therapy for a few weeks. We chose Cadia because it was close to our home and it’s ambiance was pleasant. I can say without any reservation that it’s physical therapists are not only very well qualified but also very gentle and pleasant the way they treat you. Nurses too are well qualified and their aides are helpful. They are short of such staff but do the best they can with what they have. Everyone does whatever needs to be done without any constraints of their job description. For example, I got in my lunch plate spaghetti and meat sauce and being a strict vegetarian I cannot eat. I sent my husband to complain to whosoever aide he meets. He met the top director of nursing in the Hall way. She asked what she can do. When my husband explained, she said do not worry I shall solve your problem. Promptly , the chef came over and explained it was tomato sauce and not meat. Furthermore he explained to me that he was aware of my being a vegetarian, and he personally makes sure that I get the right stuff. He also wanted to know what I would like and he would make that happen. In short I am delighted to be here and shall use this facility whenever needed.

Sad and sorrowful situation!
Some of the cna's make this place look bad. Lting about what xare they have given. Allowing patients to lye in urine and filth four hours.
Causing your loved ones to regress instead of progress.
Lazy....non-caring individuals that should not be in this type of environment. Beware!

Poor Patint Care
The management of this site is totally incompetent. The therapy staff appears to be good, but the patient care is disgraceful. Security is also an issue. I arrived to take my sister to a doctors appointment one day a few minutes before 8 am. The front door was unlocked, but reception was not manned. Anyone could walk in or out. Since the staff is very lax about wearing IDs, it is impossible to be sure who is an employee. My sister reported waiting over two hours for assistance to visit the toilet. Her pain medication was not delivered on schedule. She as having trouble eating and no one monitored her to be sure she was getting enough to eat or staying properly hydrated. I would not recommend using this facility.

Disheartened
Before you select this location for short term patient care please read posted reviews for your care or for family members. The PT staff is GREAT and very amiable, affable and personable with patients. But there seems to be some disconnect when it comes to a few of the nursing and aid staff, in just what you would think should be basic care or assistance and it is very unfortunate that a few give bad care to patients over shadow the rest of the staffing. Those few bad apples need better training when it comes to patient care, they are ruining what could be a good facility. I want to know that we have chosen or could recommend this facility to anyone else and I can not at this time. Rating N/A.

Don't bother
The management staff are all very rude. I will never recommend anyone to come here for rehab or to work. We could see how over worked the staff are. How hard they are busting their butts. Some of the nurses can be rude and it's hard to understand them.

EXcellent and Caring Staff
My Mother was a patient. The staff never stooped to mere competence. Everyone with whom we came in contact was caring and helpful. care plans were explained, special requests were met when appropriate. The facility was spotless. The professional staff especially Rich, my mom's lead physical therapist went beyond the extra mile. The net result was she is recovering from a difficult surgery that few people her age achieve.
I would Highly recommend this facility without reservation.

Not for clients who need more than physcial therapy
Think carefully about putting any family member here. staff are not friendly, and spend most of their time caring for their long term patients. I often found my family member alone in his room with an untouched tray, and he needed assistance to eat. He was often dirty and when needed assistance to toilet the call button went unanswered. He never got to attend any activity because staff was "too busy", and had our family not been present most of the time, he would have received no care at all.
If your family member is vocal and able to advocate for themselves, and able to do their own toileting, and feed themselves, then you should be okay- but then why put them in a care facility?

NOT YOUR CHOICE FOR SHORT TERM OR SURGICAL REHAB
Think twice about choosing this facility for your loved one for rehab. Because they also accomodate long-term (non-rehab) patients, the nursing aides spend more time with those patients. Aides have no interest in your loved ones speedy or successful rehab & most don't know or care about the patient diagnosis, ability level, goals & restrictions. Ditto language barrier. If they are sensitive enough to speak to the patient, it often is not understood.
PT Dept & Doctors & nurses are great.

For rehab purposes it was fine.
Dad was here for a few weeks for a broken shoulder he had surgery on and was only there for the rehab and that was fine. The Physical Therapist was very attentive and caring. The staff was upbeat and the ones that worked in the dining room were great, but the room aides were not as caring, a lot of them were foreign and the accents made it difficult for the residents to understand. It had a different atmosphere than where he lives long term, but for rehab purposes it was fine. We felt that we had to be there all the time to be there for him so he wasn't alone. Medicare did help with this community which was nice.
