Independent Living Communities provide seniors with a handy equilibrium between living an independent lifestyle and not having to concern themselves with chores. Basic chores such as meal preparation and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and leisure activities is provided, allowing residents an opportunity to use their time as they see fit, free from daily obligations. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to be among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and backgrounds. Within the individual units, residents have access to their own private living space and a full kitchen, and can even live with a companion if they choose. While policies differ between communities, many residences allow cats and dogs as well. If residents decide they would like to utilize the services of private health care professionalls, they always have the option. There are a number of benefits and expenditures to keep in mind when deciding on an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these services are included in the service plan: field trips, laundry, cable TV, move-in fee, housekeeping, meals, Waiting list deposit, and private phone.
