I really think (assuming quality has remained the same - mom passed away 23 months ago) that if the prospective resident's families are reasonably close by, it's close to "as good as it's going to get." I think the price was not cheap; but then I wouldn't expect that. And I appreciated The Ivy extending the military discount to my Mom's Intelligence service. I think staff turnover was a challenge, but it seemed to be managed alright. The food was not bad; I sometimes opted to eat with my Mom. I'm guessing the only ways to make a substantial difference in overall quality of the experience would be either finding a significantly swankier place (if such a place exists nearby), or staff up a 24 hour operation out of one's home or a nearby house or apartment. I really appreciate the care and comfort Mom and the rest of us received there.... Read more

The staff is very friendly and they encourage my mom to take part in activities and maintain healthy habits. And they share photos of the activities so my sister and I are aware of mom's participation. I would recommend it to others.

I need greater than 1000 words to allow readers a complete understanding of what transpired with my mother. Let it suffice to say the treatment my mom received was deplorable and not what was promised by management. At the end, I pulled her out URGENTLY, as I did not expect her to survive much longer in their care. We were mislead, lied to, by the activities director and the executive director. The staff did the very best they could do, but one caregiver to 2 floors is dangerous and unacceptable. The focus at the Ivy is on profit, not resident care. It is my strong belief had the Ivy cared for my mother, providing her with the appropriate care promised by management, she would still be with me. I think the Ivy is a good place for people who have no memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer's, who can truly fend for themselves. If you have a loved one who is compromised mentally, in any way, the Ivy is NOT the place for you. As it's been said, buyer beware!

What stood out to our family the most in the beginning was how caring the staff members are. The community is clean and well maintained and the activities are starting to come back.

The Ivy community as a warm and welcoming atmosphere to it, the place is pleasant and has no fowl smells. The food is decent and delivered and served mostly on time. Everyone has been pleasant to work with, and we think the value for cost is pretty good and right on par.

When we first came to visit The Ivy we really liked the facility itself. It is newer and the staff is very friendly. The rooms at this community are spacious and more than adequate. The food is pretty good, our loved one seems to really enjoy it.

The community is good, but it has had some turnover in nursing staff. I am not sure if this is because of the industry or just the community as a whole. The community is very good and they are friendly. The Ivy is aligned in price with other communities. The care services has been lacking due to medication doses missing or if they run out and don't notify me. The activities are good and I know that the activity director just left. However, my loved one likes the new activities director.

Moving Mom and Dad into assisted living at was a difficult decision, but the transithion to The Ivy was anything but difficult. The outstanding staff, nurses, therapists, recreation directors, maintenance staff, and, particulary the receptionists, welcomed them with warmth, compassion, and a wealth of knowledge in the care of all residents, and in our case, the memory care program. The moment you walk in you are greeted by the receptionists with a smile and an enthusiastic hello. From that moment on you just know that you have made the best decision for your loved ones. One of the most impressive things about the staff, and I mean every single one of them, is that they know all of the residents by name and are so sincere in all the their interactions with them. The facility is beautiful, perfectly maintained, and filled with homey touches. In fact, it feels like a home away from home, and you instantly know that you are part of the family as well. The activites, entainment, excercise, social hours, parties, and excursions are well thought out and planned to include all residents and their families. In my mind, there is no better place to have your loved ones. Thanks to everyone at The Ivy for providing an opportunity for the residents to enjoy a high quality of living.

A Place for Mom has scored The Ivy at Ellington 6.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
