Do not put you family members here. [name removed] and his staff tried but no support from management. The room was supposed to be furnished but 1 chair and a non working dirty TV were all that was in the living room. It was one of the most depressing places I've ever seen.

Our Family's experience
The list of activities was very good however we had no first hand experience because my Aunt's health failed dramatically right as she moved in and she did not participate in any activities. The Cross Roads is a very nice community. Unfortunately my Aunt's health failed and she did not get to spend much time there before she passed away. The Director of sales is great; as is the nursing supervisor. I did not care for the business manager. I felt she was dismissive & abrupt; especially compared to how cooperative & caring other Admin staff was. The care staff was very kind & conscientious. My only complaint is the care team appears understaffed on weekends; my Aunt's level of care was better during the week than on weekends.

Overall, a great facility for the money!
Communication is definitely something this facility needs to work on! Several high level staff seem to prefer to "drop the ball." But stay persistent and be your loved ones advocate! Overall, this is still the best place for my mom!

My loved one is currently a resident at The Crossroads at Bon Air and everything has been great for her at this facility. One thought/suggestion I have: how are the activities and outings planned? I would recommend The Crossroads at Bon Air to others.

Nice place, visit often!
If you are on site, the staff is very responsive. If not, then the requests for information from them is very slow, if at all. This would include the business office and floor staff. The housekeeping is okay, but we have had to request services that we thought should have been done and make follow-up calls to get them done and still there was no communication to let us know if they had indeed been accomplished. You are on your own moving in. The facility is a nice one, but I have nothing to compare it to for the most part. I recommend giving it a look, after that it is to each his own.

Review for The Crossroads at Bon Air
I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a place. Expensive but pretty comparable to others in the area and the facility seemed more open and comfortable than the couple of others we visited and [name removed] was so helpful and knowledgeable when she showed us around that it seemed like a good place.

Do not recommend for respite
Upon introduction everyone was very nice, and it looked and smelled clean. I did explain my mother's behavior and what to look out for. after two weeks, when I picked her up, her room reeked of urine, there was stool in her windowsill. Staff lost her DNR paperwork. Many items were lost that had her name on it. I was told they would call when it was found and it's been three months. I requested that they call me if for any questions or concerns, they never did. Staff overall were fine but all you have to do is have that one bad apple and it messes it all up. I have worked in geriatrics/dementia for a long time and very aware of the behaviors that can occur.

We are truly sorry that your expectations were not met. We recognize that it is difficult to trust the care of someone that you love to others and we take that responsibility very seriously. Failed Placement!
We picked The Crossings at Bon Air because they presented that they could meet our person's needs. And their cost was good compared to another place we were looking at. I took the time to read reviews and look up Department of Social Services reports. Based on all of that information gathering, we did select them. But it turned out that what they represented they would do did not happen. We ended up having to pull our person out of there after a week and a half, and it was a very chaotic experience. During that short time, he was sent to the hospital three times, which was not the norm for him. They refused to refund us the move-in fee, which I understand is generally not refundable. But I can't believe they wouldn't make an allowance when they were not providing adequate services. We ended up having to have him hospitalized so he had a safe place to be to become stabilized so we could move him again. The stress of having to research and find another facility when we had just gone through that was extreme. They handled things very poorly. We got him moved to another facility, and he is doing so much better there. I later learned that The Crossings had undergone a change in ownership just prior to our experience, and I hope that they're able to pull things together for their residents in the future.

Adequate and Improving
I think they are about in the same league as other communities. I think they handled the COVID that sprung up a couple months ago well. It is my impression that they have a lot of new people staff members coming into the community to help care for the residents. There have had several key director positions that have turned over, and there is no communication from the community about these changes. The family has to ask the front desk, instead of hearing it from the community directly. I am hopeful that the new key positions will last to give some continuity to the community.

They Only Care About the Money
My mother in law lived there, and reported to the front desk that water was coming through her ceiling. After 11 days of no one checking, a maintenance man came to deliver her food, and she asked him if he was there to check the leak. He said no, but did look at it and "repaired" it. After subsequent rainfalls the ceiling leaked again, and this time she was told she would have to wait for the roofers to come. It finally may be fixed after 3 months. There are two other locations in her apartment where water is coming through the walls. The food is not good at all. This used to be a nice facility, but has been sold twice, and now only cares about profit, not the residents. I seriously would not recommend and elderly person living here, there are better options, like I found for my mother in law, at similar prices. The management is also very bossy and tries to intimidate the residents, like my mother in law. Please think carefully before allowing a loved one to stay here.

We initially really liked The Crossings, but when we went to sign papers they told us that children were not allowed to come visit. I wanted my daughter to be able to see her grandpa, so that was an immediate turn off for us.

This was a lovely community. The lady who did the tour was taking over for the manager who was out of town. The community was clean and it smelled good. They had activities going on and were playing bingo with all of the residents. They just seemed to be very engaged with all of the residents.

Our tour experience
The independent and assisted living facilities are quite nice. I've been involved in music volunteering there, and I have friends whose parents live there, and they love it. The people there were nice and friendly, and the facility looked pretty, although there was not much closet space. But the memory care floor is what stopped me. There were wheelchairs all lined up with people leaning to the side like skeletons, not being engaged.

A Place for Mom has scored The Crossroads at Bon Air 7.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
