Who could ask for more?
In case you are now having to make a decision of what to do to provide the best memory care for your loved one, I want to share our experience and to give you hope. My mom and dad had self isolated for 9 years prior to this. We knew they were hiding something and my brother chose to drop in announced. Calls to visit were denied previously as "they had plans for the day and would not be home". My parents had always promised each other for over 70 years that they would not put one another in a nursing home. So they did not let us visit and only face timed the last 9 years "due to Covid". We as their children learned in one afternoon they had hidden years of Mom's health & their daily life from us. My dad was a nervous wreck. He took my brother to mom. She was on the floor in the bedroom and told my brother she was just resting her back and always took a nap this way. The fact that mom's physical abilities were so diminished that she was falling frequently, plus my 90 year old dad was trying to lift or pick her up was heartbreaking. We moved her and dad to an assisted living facility (not Iris) I learned in a few days there was a many much bigger problems that had been kept from us. 2 weeks into assisted living, I took my dad to the ER due to injuring his back trying to lift her after another fall because she would not let him call staff for help. Dad was admitted to the hospital and I moved in to care for mom in his absence. We thought she had falling & mobility issues mainly. My parents had not told us Mom had Parkinson's. What I saw was she was also now having safety issues mentally as well. I hired a sitter to stay with her a few hours at a time, then started looking at and touring 12 nursing homes and facilities for memory care in Oklahoma City to find a place to meet our standards. I was so disappointed with the options available and knew I could not put Mom and dad together in one. Iris was always absolutely spotless. I went there 3 to 4 times that week unscheduled to get a realistic view of the care being given to the residents. I was always welcomed by the staff and all my questions were answered. There was never anything out of place. The facility always smelt fresh and clean, the the patients were also clean, dressed appropriately and out of their rooms engaged in an activity or relaxing in the common area. My siblings agreed that moving mom to Iris was the best plan for her. My only drawback was Iris insisted that after we moved Mom in we were not to visit or contact her for 2 weeks. I was not happy with this direction at all. I was promised if at any time in that 2 weeks I would be contacted immediately for any issues. That staff at Iris all met together with me to set up a care plan and told me that their experience proved putting mom on a schedule rather than just letting her sleep to be safe, would be the best choice for mom. I agreed to move her there and try their process. 2 weeks to the minute later, my dad and I went to visit her. She was a totally different person, happy, laughing, talking clearly and introducing us to everyone that came by to say hi as we visited. My mom put her arm around them and greeted everyone by name. The process worked! Mom was there 6 months before she passed away in November. She remained very happy, ate each meal with new friends, drank coffee and had snacks any time she wanted. Her nails were manicured weekly, my hairdresser went once a week to their on site beauty salon to keep her on her schedule (since 1953) of getting her hair done weekly. She was loved, the staff took time to sit and talk with her, she was tucked in at night. She was safe and told us at every visit what adventures she'd had and what was on the next day's schedule. My dad was so grateful and so relieved that she had the care she needed. He started this feeling like he was not keeping his promise to her to not go to a nursing home. After the first month, he saw the woman he loved for almost 72 years living her best life again surrounded by friends. She told us every time we saw her 4-5 times weekly that she was happy. Who could ask for more?

Mom has passed away
Initially all seemed great. I received a phone call about first fall. She was given a wheelchair to use instead or in addition to her walker and when she tried to sit the chair wheeled away from her. She was ok then. No other communication when i went on vacation, phone was active and i was listed as emergency contact. When i went to pick her up at the end of her stay, i didn't recognize her. I arrived at 11:10 AM, her left side of face was swollen and purple down her neck. The nurse was sitting on the left and said she was going to call me soon, but she fell last night sometime. She didn't know how she fell. As i was packing her stuff, she went to the bathroom. Her left thigh up to her hip was swollen and purple as well and her feet and both legs were swollen. I made them take xrays. We got home, mom felt nauseous, we had to call an ambulance to take her to the hospital. There 4 days. Came home, no energy like previous, nurses helping, no improvement, on hospice and then she died.

A little disappointed
My LO seems happy there. I have issues with housekeeping/laundry services. They seem to be short staffed with aides especially on the weekends. I do think the directors are working on getting these issues resolved so they never happen again.

Our Experience
Staff is wonderful. Move in was very easy. There is always an open line of communication. My father sometimes, most of the time, likes the food. But sometimes he doesn't. I think that's just a thing. The only thing I would say is this: this particular Iris location does not have a support group. I believe the Iris further north of the city does. I would like to see one at the N. May location. My Mom could really benefit from such a program. Driving further North for her is not an option.

Loving Care in a Pleasant Setting
I don't know much about the meals, though my sister said she tasted some of the food to try and get Mom to eat it and she said it was good. Everything else has been great, especially the staff. They went over and beyond to help Mom, and us. ALL of the workers were sweet and patient with her, even when she was at her worst. We couldn't have asked for better care for her.

Love Iris Memory Care
My husband is a resident here and he loves it! He’s very well cared for. His room and bathroom are always clean. The staff is professional and friendly to everyone. It’s clean, doesn’t smell when you walk in, with a home environment. Activities are well thought out and twice a day. The food is really good with well planned nutritionally balanced meals. My husbands happy and content and so am I..

Endorsement
I am recommending Iris Memory Care of NH based on my current experience with IRMC of Edmond. My Dad has been at the Edmond location for four months. My family and I have been very pleased with the care and compassion that they have provided. The programming and philology has made a difference in his quality of life. The staff goes above and beyond when communicating with us about his care and any concerns that we may have.

Storey Oaks Review
Storey Oaks Oklahoma City gets all 5 stars, we have been very happy with them. We chose this facility because of the price mostly. It was the most doable for my mom and the location was close to her. Also the director was very compassionate and knowledgeable.

A good place overall.
I think it was a good place. My dad was rapidly declining and had hospice care, so he had extra help. But there were a lot of residents that were up and walking around, and they had a lot of activities going on. So it looked like it would be a good place for people with their faculties still about them. The staff were really nice. They were really nice to the residents as well. I was a little upset with the weekend crew, because they admitted they didn't know the people well since they don't normally work there. But they had their own chef, and it looked like they put out nice meals. I think it was a good facility overall. And they were able to work with me on the cost beyond the number that they originally gave me.

Okay Community
Storey Oaks has taken good care of my loved one. This was my only choice, and it has been okay. The front desk staff is good, and the caregiving staff is understaffed. The marketing person that I worked with is no longer there and this was after a short amount of time.

I do not recommend this facility, I researched 8 different facilities and was highly impressed with Story Oaks. After a week she was calling us afraid, and when we visited her room was a mess and sheets were missing. We made a list of things that we wanted to be fixed in the room and it was never done. After 30 days we decided to pull her out of the facility, and moved her into a new facility, and is doing amazing.

My families experience with this community during COVID
This review is during COVID. From our understanding we believe they have taken great care of our loved one, we have not been able to go inside this community because of COVID. From some of the people we have talked to, they have talked well of the place. The staff members have been very accommodating to us during this time. We were able to walk in to the front desk and it seemed clean, but we have not been able to see his room. Everyone has been very friendly from top to bottom. We believe the value is pretty good, compared to the other places we researched. We have seen some activities on Facebook and it all looks fun and engaging, due to our loved ones memory he doesn't participate in them but for everyone else it looks to be fun.

There are much better places
Overall they found my loved one to be a lot of trouble and seemed to resent her. She lost 25 pounds during the year she lived there. The staff tried to avoid having an annual care meeting with me in spite of the loss of weight. I finally put my loved one in a different place and what a difference! Having a family member with cognitive problems is a confusing, frustrating problem. It’s difficult to tell what their real needs and problems are. The last thing you need is the facility to be adding to the problems and confusion. Story Oaks did add to the problem and it took moving to a new facility to see the difference.

Wonderful Care for my Stroke Survivor & Dementia Mom
I moved my mom into Storey Oaks almost 3 months ago and have been very impressed with the staff there. They are kind, caring, and I have never seen anyone there be rude or in a bad mood towards my mom. Everyone there seems mindful and happy with their jobs. The management also respects its employees, which is so important in the general atmosphere of a nursing home, and directly relates to the treatment of your loved one. They are great at handling her carefully, as she is partially paralyzed and requires full assistance. I live out of town and they communicate with me about any issues that come up with her, and are willing to listen. And they can manage her special diet and swallowing issues with meals that she actually likes. The facility itself is also not too big, so the residents get a good amount of attention and personal care, and aren't just a number in a long hallway. Finding the right situation for my mom with all her care needs has been a real challenge for me, and I'm very grateful to have called A Place for Mom and to have found Storey Oaks. There are so many factors to a good nursing home and Storey Oaks has checked off all the boxes for me so far and I feel reassured that I don't have to worry all the time.
