Assisted Living

Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and health care to your loved one who require support with everyday activities such as dressing or washing. The types of service offered often include aid with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and assessment. In some cases, communities may offer respite, nursing care, or hospice. The state of Oregon has specific statutes related to this kind of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight regulates this type of community. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as risk indicator assessment, physical health exam, ADLs test, and mental health evaluation. Staff are required to obtain education in a variety of subjects. These include: residents’ rights, fire safety, infection control, and abuse and reporting requirements. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include transportation services, assist psychosocial wellbeing, maximize physical functioning, and health services.
