Assisted living communities have the luxury of organized social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individualized care. The services provided often involve aid with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In some cases, communities may provide respite, Alzheimer’s care, or hospice. Oklahoma has specific standards related to this type of community. Department of Health, Protective Health Services, Long-term Care Services certifies this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include nursing supervision, intermittent nursing care, assistance with cognitive orientation, and assistance with transfer. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day, staff must be trained in food preparation, and must use a licensed dietician to develop diet plan. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include provide medication administration and observe the swallowing of oral medications. Staff must obtain education in a variety of areas. These include: cpr, first-aid, and residents’ specific needs. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 2. There must be one bath or shower for every 4 residents and one toilet for every 4 residents. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. Public assistance is available through the Medicaid 1915(c) Advantage Program, the Sooner Services Program, and the My Life My Choice Program.
