Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide social opportunities, healthcare, and supervision to people around 65 years old. The types of service provided often involve aid with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under observation and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer “aging in place”, skilled nursing, or respite. The state of Ohio maintains a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. Ohio Department of Health licenses this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance opening and taking medication, handing medications to resident, and assistance organizing medication. There must be one bath or shower for every 8 residents and one toilet for every 8 residents. In total, there can be no more than 4 residents to a room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervision, medication administration, intermittent nursing services, and activities. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as functional status assessment, cognitive status review, medication review, and psychological history. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. Staff members receive training in a variety of fields.
