An assisted living community is an organized living community which administers care, support, and supervision to medically stable persons who do not need skilled nursing care. Assisted living communities commonly provide aid with the activities of daily life, care supervision, and assistance with transit and appointments. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer respite, hospice, or nursing care. In New Jersey, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . These include: abuse and neglect, assisted living concepts, caring for residents with impairment, and emergency plans and procedures. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as a level of care assessment, routines and preferences, nursing needs, and a health care assessment. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include recreational activities, assist with personal care, transportation, and dietary services. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include maintain a standard of food preparation that meets the needs of residents, prepare meals and snacks based on the Food and Nutrition board’s recommended dietary allowances, and provide three meals a day. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room.
