Monett, Missouri

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities offer organized social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individualized support. Assisted living communities commonly offer help with the activities of daily life, supervision of care, and aid with transportation and appointments. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide continuing care, dementia care, or respite. In Missouri, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $34,566 . The state of Missouri maintains a number of stipulations related to this type of community. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Regulation and Licensure, Section for Long-Term Care Regulation regulates this community type. Staff must obtain education in a variety of subjects. These areas include 24 hours of additional training on interview skills, (2 hours) of initial training on transfer assistance, working with residents with mental illness, and communicating with persons with dementia. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include self-administer prescription and nonprescription medications if a licensed health provider approves, Injections may be administered only by a physician or licensed nurse, and a physician, pharmacist, or registered nurse (RN) must review the medication regimen of each resident every other month. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as authorized staff person and a physician must conduct a physical exam to document the individual’s current medical status and write any special orders regarding care and needed procedures, an individualized evacuation plan must be developed for residents who require more than minimal assistance to evacuate, complete screening prior to admission to determine whether an applicant is eligible to be admitted, and an individualized service plan must be developed that describes the services to be provided to meet the resident’s needs. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide at least three daily meals, modified diets prescribed by a physician can be provided, and modified diets must be reviewed at least quarterly by a consulting nutritionist, dietitian, RN, or physician. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. Public assistance is available through the Medicaid State Plan Personal Care authority. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with instrumental activities of daily living, protective oversight, nursing services, and assistance with administration of medications.
