Assisted living communities offer a sense of community as well as individualized care. Services provided often include support with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In some instances, communities may offer respite, continuing care, or Alzheimer’s care. The annual median cost for a private room is around $111,508 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $100,481 . Michigan has a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. The Department of Human Services licenses licenses this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive written assessment that that describes prescribed treatments and medications that must be provided to the community prior to admission, service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative, and The service plan must be updated annually and following a significant change in health status. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications, reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, and medication supervision and administration. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include being aware of a resident’s general whereabouts, medication management, reminding resident of important activities to be carried out, and supporting a resident’s personal and social needs. Staff members receive training in a number of areas. These include: reporting requirements and documentation, containment of infectious disease, supervision, and staff training program based on the home’s program statement. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional, three daily meals and snacks must be provided, and Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council.
