Caring staff
Since my wife, [name removed], arrival, the staff have been very responsive to any request I have relayed to them. Staff members know who [name removed] is, and that I am her husband, most also call me by name. Activities that are scheduled seem to fit her abilities. Even if she doesn't initially want to participate, staff's encouragement will often change her mind, so that, she will participate, and enjoy the activity after all. Photos the staff sends, support her enjoyment of various activities.

Top Notch
This facility provides my mom without standing care. They only provide sufficient medication to meet her needs - no over medication. We like how they keep the residents out of their rooms and keep them continuously engaged with other residents and activities. The staff is very kind and considerate to the residents! We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memory care facility!!

Not what we hoped for
We had some issues with the nurse in building 3 We had no issues when in building 2 but felt there wasn't as much attention to care in building 3 The food was less than appetizing It was nice that they tried to include everyone in the activities...[name removed] is amazing Building 2 was more worth the money than building 3. We felt my Dad should have been in building 4 & maybe he would have had better care

Needs improvements do not recommend.
They do not have good fill-in workers for their staff. We were not aware that we could order different types of food, but the activities were great. I would never put another family member at that facility. My suggestion to anyone checking out Ashley Court to have a meeting with all of the principals at once not just the marketing person. The reason for the low overall experience score, is because the staff dropped my mom and she had a fracture in her leg, which caused her to go from level three to level four, which took her out of Hospice. [name removed] is great however they have staff that they use for contract purposes to fill in and that was absolutely horrible. Communication between the principals and the staff needs to be more open. The staff was working with Hospice . They were not giving her showers because they said that was hospice responsibility. Hospice only comes in at certain times and they are to fill in the gaps miscommunication. The Weeeknd staff is filled with contract workers and they are very, very unfriendly one day.

We are very sorry that you feel this way and that your experience last year with your mom's care at Ashley Court was not acceptable to you. We loved caring for your mom, and it was a blessing having here. In this imperfect world, improvement is always needed, and we will continue to work very hard each day to keep our community a safe loving home that provides the best care possible. I would like to address your concerns and hopefully shed a bit of light on your discomfort but also defend the amazing staff here at Ashley Court. I'm sure you would agree that every story has two sides. You shared yours and we would like to share ours. Our staff has a very difficult job. They provide the care that others cannot or chose not to. Whether the staff is employed through Ashley Court or a staffing agency, they provide the best care they can. When you wrote about the caregiver dropping your mom, she did not drop your mom. Your mom was falling, and the caregiver went to reach for her to catch her and they both fell to the floor. This accident was very unfortunate, but it could not have been prevented. Her injury did cause her to need more care, and we had to move her to the next level because of her fall. She was on hospice prior to the fall and for her to be admitted to the hospital, your family had to take her off hospice. This is their regulation, not Ashley Court's. When a loved one is put on hospice care, hospice then becomes responsible for their showers and those are given twice a week. After your mom returned from the hospital in a leg brace, she was admitted back on hospice and showers were no longer an option due to her leg brace. Hospice was giving her bed baths. We partner with only the best hospice companies, and we work very closely with them to ensure our residents have the quality of life they deserve at this stage of life. In regard to the meal plans, we don't offer options to people with dementia because it's too confusing for them. If a resident is on a special diet or dislikes a food, we accommodate them with an alternative. Your mom liked soup, so we made her soup whenever she asked. She was such a happy woman, and she loved our staff. She always had a bowl full of candy that she shared constantly with us. We miss her very much. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please contact our executive director. Thank you. Jodi

Staff is always short. Sometimes you have to wait a long time to get let into building. Food has sometimes been severed on paper plates.Because of the price, which has gone up 5%, it is still a good value for the activities keeping them busy.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate you and your feedback. I understand your concern about the paper plates, we were running with only 1 cook per day to prepare, cook, serve and clean up 2 kitchens. That has finally been rectified with the hiring of 2 new cooks! I am also sorry that at times family has to wait for someone to answer the door. It is inconvenient to have to wait. I will bring this up in our staff meeting to see if we can come up with a plan that works more efficiently for all. I do have to address the "always short" comment. By state regulations we are always in compliance and a bit better. We are required to have a 1 to 10 care ration in buildings 1 and 2 where care is mild to moderate. Building 3 is required 3 people as care is higher as is bldg 4. We carry 4 caregivers (1 to 5 ratio) in each of those 2 bldgs currently which is 1 better than state regulations. So, I hope this explanation alleviates any worries you may have, now knowing that your loved one will get the care he/she deserves. Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.

Compassionate & Caring place!
We really struggled to find a place for my MIL where we knew she would be comfortable and safe, while also being a place we could get to easily and get accurate, timely feedback on her care. Ashley Court staff have been exactly what we needed. The people working there make all the difference. [names removed] and the entire crew are amazing at their jobs and have made one of the toughest decisions in our lives an easy one. For that alone, we are grateful. You won’t get a sales pitch, but you will get honest answers and real expectations…some will be hard to take. We needed time to be ready for this change, and Ashley Court has been there to help us all along the way. I can’t speak highly enough of our experience, and we truly would recommend Ashley court to anyone who needs assistance.

Worst Care or should I say lack off.
Their Staff had no professional medication Training. I ask the one girl passing medication. She confirmed it. So many licensing violations. All staff on evenings and midnights stayed in Living room on cell phones or watching TV. They never did an regular bed checks, my client laid half off the bed in Urine, was not bathe until the Hospice nurse and myself did it the day before she passed. The Director had her untrained sin passing medication etc. None of the staff went through trainings.

I'm sorry you feel this way and that your 1 week experience here felt so traumatic to you (I remember you). I would like to address a few of the complaints I believe may be misunderstood or incorrect. We do NOT have "so many violations" and are fully licensed and in good standing by the state of Michigan. The medication passers have ALL been trained. 1st by the lead med tech/supervisor, then by the nurse, who signs off on the training once completed and is in full compliance of state licensing regulations. So, I am not sure what you are referring to when you say, "professional medication training". The girl you say confirmed that, perhaps, did not understand what you meant either. The midnight staff does do frequent checks, however, when family is in the room with their loved one they may not go in as often, because the resident is not alone. You will be happy to know that since your complaint last year, we felt we could improve on that and now the frequent checks stay in place unless a family specifically ask us not to intrude. I am proud that our community always strives to take criticism and use it as motivation to implement improvements for the good of our residents and their families. Shelly

November 16, 2022
As always, we appreciate feedback from all of our families so that we can continue to strive for the best experience possible for our residents and family members. I will try to address these concerns as best as possible. A good On-boarding system is sometimes harder in dementia depending on the condition or disposition of the resident and their level of dementia. This is not an excuse, but more an explanation of the struggles of a procedure in a community that is not a "one size fits all". Perhaps I will need to adjust how I explain it to prospective families so that expectations can be better met. Missing personal items in dementia is not usually "stolen". Many residents lose, throw away, misplace or "hide in a safe place", jewelry, hearing aids, dentures and glasses to name a few. We do have a separate form in the sign-up paperwork that specifically addresses jewelry and personal valuables that every new resident family is asked to sign as a reminder. However, if you are sure jewelry was stolen, did you make a police report that I am unaware of so that this may be addressed? Medication regulations are set by the physician and cannot be altered in any way by the community. As for issues with Dr. evaluations and reviews, this would be an issue you resolve with Visiting Physicians and the contract signed with them. If you would like to contact me personally, I would be happy to get involved to advocate for you and your loved one. Regarding return calls, I am sorry this was your experience and there is no excuse for that. I personally do not address most issues once a family moves in as we have a manager for every department however, I will extend my apologies for all of us. Please feel free to contact me if I can help resolve any further issues for you. Sincerely, Shelly Muir

They treat her like family, they have so many activities that we see daily on their FB page, they keep her engaged, she seems so happy and for the money the value has surpassed the cost! They communicate to us via phone when needed, are great we we visit. Best place we could have picked for her.

Amazing home
I would give Ashley Court of Brighton a 10 out of 5 if I could, they have been nothing short of amazing. We felt safe placing her here, they made us feel very comfortable and we knew she would be well taken care of. The staff go above and beyond for anything that the residents may need. I love the fact that all of the buildings are the same - she is moving to another building soon and she will already know the layout. They have a Facebook page where they take pictures and I can see what my sister is up to all the time. I would absolutely recommend this facility to other families.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
