Assisted Living

Assisted living facilities administer oversight, healthcare, and recreational activities to individuals who are on average 65 years of age or older. Assisted living facilities commonly offer chances for recreational activity, care supervision, and aid with appointments and transit. Under certain circumstances, facilities may provide skilled nursing, "aging in place", or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living facility is around $50,040 . Illinois has specific rules associated with this kind of facility. The Illinois Department of Public Health licenses this type of facility. Staff members obtain training in a variety of areas. These areas include resident rights, independence, infection control, and reporting. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program.This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include medication reminders, emergency response systems, housekeeping, and non-medical services. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident's psychosocial condition, evaluation of a prospective resident's physical condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident's representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, and assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this facility type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of facility is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include supervision of self-administered medications, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and reading the medication label to residents. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include facilities must provide three daily meals.
