Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and aid for people who require help with things such as mobility or preparing meals. Assisted living communities frequently provide supervision of care, support with daily activities, and help with appointments and transit. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer dementia care, respite, or “aging in place”. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . The state of Georgia has a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes supervises this community type. Staff are required to receive training in a variety of subjects. These areas include reporting requirements, Residents’ rights, hand hygiene, and emergency preparedness. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assisting residents with self-administration, placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand, and applying topical medications. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include the provision of assisted self-preservation, assisted living care, described as personal services, and administration of medications by a certified medication aide. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A written care plan must document the assessment findings, assessment to determine the resident’s physical care needs, personal preferences relative to care needs, and assessment to determine the resident’s functional capacity with regard to ADLs.
