Assisted living communities offer coordinated social events and apartment style housing as well as personalized care. The services provided often include support with ADLs. Residents may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In some situations, communities may offer respite, nursing, or dementia care. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. Florida has a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation certifies this community type. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, meals must be adapted to residents preferences, meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , and the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , communities must document such assessment, and medical examination report. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living , assistance with self-administration of medications, personal care services, and nursing services. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include opening the container and removing a prescribed amount of medication, placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand, and staff may take previously dispensed, properly labeled containers from where they are stored and bringing them to the resident. Staff must obtain training in a variety of areas. These include: providing assistance with activities of daily living, resident rights, community sanitation procedures, and resident behavior and needs.
