Assisted living communities offer social interaction, supervision, and care to persons who are around 65 years of age or older. The types of service offered often include help with the activities of daily life. Residents may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer continuing care, Alzheimer’s care, or hospice. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. Florida has specific regulations related to this kind of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation regulates this community type. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be adapted to residents preferences, the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, and meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities . Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. Staff are required to obtain training in a variety of fields. These areas include community emergency procedures, emergency evacuation, universal precautions, and reporting incidents.
