Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and health care to persons who need help with self-administering medication or cooking meals. The types of service offered often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, continuing care, or hospice. In Arizona, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . The state of Arizona maintains specific statutes related to this type of community. The Division of Public Health Licensing Services, Bureau of Residential communities Licensing regulates this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication procurement, assistance with self administration, and medication administration. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must comply with therapeutic diets specified in their service plan, communities must provide meals and snacks in accordance with federal dietary guidelines, and meals must meets the nutritional needs of residents. Public assistance is available through Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS). Staff must obtain education in a variety of subjects. These areas include orientation that is specific to duties, in-service education, cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, and first-aid. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care services, supervisory care services, activities to maximize functioning, and directed care services.
