Assisted living communities provide coordinated social events and apartment style housing as well as individual assistance. The services offered often involve aid with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under observation and assessment. In certain instances, communities may provide hospice, respite, or dementia care. In Arizona, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . Arizona maintains specific regulations related to this kind of community. The Division of Public Health Licensing Services, Bureau of Residential communities Licensing regulates this type of community. Staff must receive training in a number of areas. These areas include in-service education, orientation that is specific to duties, cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, and first-aid. Public assistance is available through Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS).This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must meets the nutritional needs of residents, communities must provide meals and snacks in accordance with federal dietary guidelines, and meals must comply with therapeutic diets specified in their service plan. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance with self administration, medication administration, and medication procurement. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care services, behavioral health services, supervisory care services, and cognitive stimulation activities. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as The level of service the resident is expected to receive, initial comprehensive mental and physical assessment, and the amount, type, and frequency of services that will be provided to the resident.
