Complete guide to nursing homes

Peoria, Arizona

Nursing Homes

A nursing home community provides residence to two or more seniors who have no familial relation to the administrator. A nursing home community offers its inhabitants 24-hour care administered by registered nurses. These caregivers offer healthcare services for seniors who are unable to care for themselves due to mental or physical conditions, including age.

Nursing homes can be a helpful and comfy living alternative for individuals 65 years or older, however nursing homes will routinely allow access to persons 55 and greater which is unusual for other senior care types. A large number of inhabitants are single women with smaller social support groups, and almost fifty percent of nursing home residents are older than the age of 85. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to get proper medical care, spend time with visitors, make complaints, and exercise your rights as a U.S. citizen. A significant number of nursing home residents are persons who have mental or physical disabilities, require assistance with daily tasks such as bathing, experience difficulty with hearing and seeing, or have incontinence issues. The most common mental disease effecting nursing home residents is dementia, which can hinder their memory recall, and their sense of familiarity with their surroundings, and decision making capabilities. Nursing homes are required to provide specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), medically-related social services, dietary services, and pharmaceutical services to residents.
