Arts, Culture, Entertainment, and Recreation

Louisville utilizes its proximity to nature and its vibrant environment to cultivate a unique, grassroots, hometown feel. Although the city has a burgeoning craft beer scene, Louisville is renowned for its whiskey. One popular spot to visit is the Jim Beam stillhouse where you can enjoy craft cocktails and Jim Beam memorabilia. From old-school taverns and dive bars to craft beers, casinos and live music, Louisville knows how to have a good time. Maybe that is why the River City is named one of the top 10 music scenes in the country by Time Magazine.

The city is also extremely close to a number of state parks and nature conservatories where you can enjoy hiking or short camping tricks. For the baseball fans there is the Lousiville Slugger museum and factory. Another popular attraction and arguably the biggest tourist draw to the city is the annual Kentucky Derby held at Churchill Downs. The first leg of the American Triple Crown, this race is nicknamed “the most exciting two minutes in sports”.

Transportation

The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) is the major public transportation system for Louisville and the surrounding suburbs. There’s over 7,000 stops and hybrid buses have kneeling capabilities to pick up disabled and older riders, who also enjoy discounted rates. Starting in 2020, there is also a rapid ride service with new technology, express queue lanes, and new paved highways for safe traveling.
