Moving to and living at VSB.
It has been an extremely positive experience. [name removed] at VSB did a fantastic job of coordinating all aspects of the move from the room updates, required forms/shots and moving day. My Dad feels very welcomed at his new home. The other tenants are very friendly and went out of their way to help my dad feel welcomed. I could go on but suffice it to say there was no negative aspect of my dad moving to VSB.The fact that it has dependent living and memory care units is a huge plus. If my dad ever needs more help he does not have to leave VSB. Also, the bar open every day from 4 to 6 is a great way to mingle with the other tenants.

Lots of space with few people. St. Benedict utilizes interns from the college across the street for training, nursing, and cooking. The community runs a co-op. The villas are not an option for my mother because of mobility. there is a happy hour and the food smelled great.

Great place for mom
My mother has been living at the facility for a year now, and she loves it. She is in the smallest apartment available, but it is more than adequate for her. It has a large living room, bedroom with walk-in closet, full kitchen with range/oven, full size fridge, dishwasher and microwave, and a bathroom. There is also a stackable washer/dryer. The staff is very attentive. The nurse noticed that that she was not taking her medications at the right time, and informed me right away. They also alert me when she need additional medication. The staff is very polite and they communicate well. The activities are setup like a cruise ship; there are lots of things to do with others if you like social events, but you can stay in your room if you'd like. In addition to weekly trips to the grocery / drug stores, there are also special events like concerts at North Central College, a movie on site every Sunday in the Great room, and Wii Bowling tournaments. In December, the residents took a bus into downtown Chicago for lunch in the Walnut Room at Macy's and a Christmas concert right after. The food is varied and tastes good. Residents can choose from a Deli/Cafe, Bar/Lounge, or formal sit-down restaurant foe their meal choices, and meals are included in the monthly fee. The campus is great for walking, especially once the weather warms up. There are walking paths with benches, so it's easy to get some exercise or find an isolated spot to read a book. There are gazebos outside the restaurant so dining al fresco is an option. All in all, it's a good fit for mom. She has plenty of opportunities for interaction and she is enjoying her time there.

My no-brained choice
Wonderful people, beautiful campus with many trees over 47 acres, well kept up. Great food, good service. The jewel is the large chapel with daily Mass at 11:30. Good location. Not your typical facility with a parking lot and practically no campus. Many living options. See villastben.org for two nice videos.

So happy we made the move to Villa St Benedict
Our parents moved from their large suburban home to one of the Villa St Benedict Villas. It was a perfect transition for them. It was very spacious, with a garage and patio. We furnished it with their own furniture and most cherished possessions. The staff is caring, diligent and responsive. Needing increasing care, my mom is now in Assisted Living and my dad in the dementia care unit (Abbey Lane.). They are able to spend time together, attend events and even go on field trips. We have completely personalized their new apartments with their own furniture and their most important mementos. Our extended family enjoys the Villa St Benedict facilities, attending programs, having family events in the dining room and even renting the hospitality (bar) area for special birthdays and anniversaries.

This place is fabulous! Mom & dad chose to downsize and move here 4 years ago since they had been residents of Lisle for a long time. Mom has since passed and being a part of this community has really helped my father to adjust. VSB is only a phone call away for questions, concerns, and updates. Love this place!

The best thing he ever did for me
When my husband was sick, Sister Mary and Sister Barbara came to visit him. It was a snowy day and we sat and visited. When they got ready to leave, Sister Mary went outside in the snow, lay down in my driveway and made an angel. I took pictures, I still have. I laughed myself silly. Here was sister Mary, the head sister and she's making a snow angel! They are just so fun, they are people, they are happy, they love what they do and they make others feel happy. They were fabulous with me and Ken. I have to give my husband credit, he chose it (VSB) and he wanted me to have this knowing that he wouldn't be here that long. I swear, it's the best thing he ever did for me.

A really fine place for us to live
This is a really fine place for us to live. It's a Catholic-sponsored community that warmly welcomed us Presbyterians. Their core values appealed immediately to us: Hospitality (a warm friendly atmosphere), Respect (consideration and compassion), Stewardship (managing community resources wisely) and Justice (good will and dignity in all relationships). It's on an attractive, rolling site that was formerly prosperous farmland, and our house is on one end of our street, bordering some woods.

A Place for Mom has scored Villa St. Benedict a CCRC 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
