Good Option If You Can Afford It
This is much better option than a nursing home if you can afford it. There are only six residents with two caregivers, and the residents are receiving more one-on-one attention than in a different community.
There are three meals a day served, along with snacks for the residents. There is a scheduled meal time for the residents.
The caregivers are able to assist with medication management, bathing, and dressing assistance. The staff have told the family that our loved one receives a shower everyday.

St John AFC Home is a retirement community located in Southfield, Michigan. Southfield is a town located north of Detroit proper, and a short drive over to Lake St. Claire. It is a residential care facility that takes in senior citizens looking for a home while still having localized attention. Experience so far
My loved one is a resident at St. John AFC Home. The facility is always spotless, as are the residents. The staff are always smiling and try to be helpful. However, there is a language barrier with all but one staff member, which can be challenging. The food is very plain and they don't have a printed menu available. There are no activities that I can see. They all just sit around watching TV or listening to music. My loved one had trouble adjusting and the owner, who is a nurse, was very understanding. Due to the language barrier with the staff, as well as no mental or physical stimulation, we are unsure about our loved one's future at this facility.

Community Tour
St. John's is a residential care home, so it was a smaller, more intimate setting. It was clean. The people I spoke with seemed like they really had a handle on everything and how to care for everyone. They told me they treat residents like members of the family, which was nice. Everyone there looked happy and in good shape. But it was smaller than what we were looking for for our loved one.

Overall great place for a loved one
The rooms at St. John are a good size, we have had no problems with it. They have hardwood floors which make it very easy for the residents to get around. The rooms where they sit and watch TV is very roomy. We just really like this community,

I would take a look at this home!!!
The caregivers at St. John have taken an interest in my husband and his care. He likes the homemade food. The home is clean and I would recommend it. I am not sure what if any activities they offer the residents.

Things are going pretty good so far.
Things are going pretty good so far. The staff is friendly, and they are willing to accommodate my late work schedule, so that I can still visit. They keep it pretty clean. The only area where they are lacking is the entertainment. There are no complaints about the food, I would give that a four. I don't think there is really anything they need to improve on. I chose them because of how clean it was, the location, and the staff. The owner especially, I had a great rapport with her, and she was very helpful.
