Penn Home is a non profit personal care retirement residence located in the Fishtown/Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Established in 1848 as the Penn Asylum for Indigent Widows and Single Women, the Home continues its charitable heritage today by offering an affordable option in age-appropriate housing and personal care to both men and women ages 60 and older. Throughout 167 years of operation, our mission endures: to provide a quality living environment that serves the physical, mental and spiritual needs of seniors surviving on limited resources. Residents' physical needs are overseen by a full time Registered Nurse and a staff of Certified Nursing Assistants/Medication Technicians. Mental needs are met through daily activities such as games, entertainment and social events managed by our Activities Coordinator. And spiritual needs are tended to through visiting clergy and weekly religious services that are hosted in the Home's on-site chapel. In 2013, Philadelphia Magazine named 'Fishtown/Kensington' as one of the city's hottest neighborhoods due to its 'city feel, without the city price.' There are plenty of affordable options to choose from when it comes to leisure, entertainment and dining. The Sugar House Casino is just a mile from the facility. Residents can also take advantage of the free events that frequently take place at the nearby Penn Treaty Park and the Piazza at Schmidt's. Penn Home is conveniently located just minutes away from center city Philadelphia, home to some of the nation's best hospitals. The area offers plenty of public transit options allowing residents to easily navigate the city. In addition to Penn Home's ideal location, it's unique & historic facility is smaller and therefore more intimate than the average personal care home. The Home embodies the residential model of care which encourages and promotes independence. There are several common areas throughout the building which are perfect for residents' to host their family and friends as guests.

"This move could not have happen as quickly and smoothly without
your help and guidance. I felt overwhelmed and didn't
know where to even begin the search for A Place for Mom. You and
your organization made it easy to start down a road that is scary
and intimidating. Thank you so much!"

"My Grandmother is very happy there, and even has a
'boyfriend'! She is 98, he is 81 - and they sit together and
hold hands. She said, 'Why didn't you send me here earlier?
This is a great place for people like me, we have so much fun here,
we play bingo and have arts and crafts!'
I believe she has forgotten that she never wanted to leave her
home, and how much of a fight she put up when we wanted her to
move. Again, we are thankful that it all worked out and she
is now happy and able to socialize again."
