Wonderful place where mom is truly happy

Cedar springs would have been our pick if we were looking in Decatur. Great place during our tour for our loved one! Older, but nice people and lots of happiness there.

Review for Brookdale Cedar Springs
The people are so outgoing. They are always checking on you. The place is clean and the lawns are so neat, and they have ducks in the pond. The staff is very good. The food is good. They have activities, such as card games, and crafts. They put out a sheet once per month with a list of activities. They also have a beauty shop. Overall, everything is so complete.

My experience with Brookdale
The light housekeeping that is provided once a week, that person to me doesn't always do a very good job. The bus trips where they take residents shopping, you are only allowed one hour in the stores before you have to be back to the bus, I do wish that they would give them a little bit more time because that does not seem sufficient. The food is not bad, but the way it is served could be better. The facility itself is very nice and I really like the staff that work here as well.

Great Place
This is an excellent facility and my loved one is really happy here and I am happy for her. The staff are great and all of my interactions have been wonderful. They are very accommodating and listen to all of your concerns or any needs. The tour was great and they showed me everything that I needed and answered any questions that I had in regards to the community. They update me on my loved one and keep my informed and they are very patient.

A good place to live
I really like the cleanliness of the community and anytime I need assistance for something there is always a staff member available. They could work to improve on the quality of the meals - sometimes they are just not very good at all.

Highly recommended
We chose Brookdale Cedar Springs because she was able to get a bedroom and a half with a full kitchen, walk out patio, and good size living room for a great price, so value for the money is off of the chart. They were more friendly and accommodating and let us come in to visit before deciding. I would absolutely recommend to others who are looking.

We chose Brookdale Cedar Springs because my dad liked it the most because they had a pond so he could fish whenever he wanted. The apartment sizes were adequate for what he needed. They did send newsletters out to communicate with everyone about covid updates. The location of the facility is in a good spot and I would recommend to others looking.

Great Bang for the Buck
This community always smells nice when visiting! The community is affordable and very responsive.
My loved one has a large room with generous amount of space with a nice patio, and there is a dining room on site. This was a good amount of space for the money compared to other communities.

Nice place with a few problems
We chose Cedar Springs for the security and safety. We also like the location and dining room service and food.
Mom has been living there over 2 months. Her screens on windows have not been replaced and she has many problems with ants. Also, there are problems with the activities being cancelled and staff shortages.

Look Elsewhere!!!
I would remove them from your list of places you reccomend. [Name removed] told me (I'm from out of state), my aunt, and my other aunt and uncle downright lies. She said things that were included, such as passing her meds. Well it cost several hundred dollars.
They do not have diets for the individuals. My mother is diabetic and now prepared all her meals. With no discount for not using the food services. In January the rent goes up 100 dollars. She heard this is typical.
The facility must be hurting because they are now renting rooms to families visiting for 60 dollars a day.
People are very friendly and very thorough with cleaning mom's room.
Overall, dont walk, run from this place!!!!

BEWARE, THEY PREY ON ELDERLY PEOPLE'S MONEY!
BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! In the initial meeting of looking for an independent living place for my dad, the lady we met with made it seem like Brookdale was going to be perfect. We had to pay 1,000 dollar deposit that was said to be refundable as long as there was no damage to the apartment. We were told that should my dad need to move to a nursing home, we could give a 30 day notice, no problem and get the deposit back. Two months after my dad lived there, he had complications and was admitted to the hospital. We were told he needed to be in a nursing home. We put in the 30 day notice. Brookdale continued to draft monthly rent out of my dad's checking account two months after he moved out! We complained and asked for his rent and the deposit back as well, and were told the 1,000 deposit was non refundable. That's NOT what we were told initially. Now, we do not have the monthly payment to pay for my dad's nursing home. Brookdale says they will refund some of what they drafted and it will take 8 weeks! My sister and I are having to close my dad's bank account just to keep Brookdale from taking more money. All they care about is taking advantage of the elderly and their money. Had me and my sister not been paying attention, there's no telling how long Brookdale would have continued to take his money. I DO NOT recommend this place. The customer service is terrible!! Unless your new and they are trying to get your business.

Look Elsewhere!!!
I'm from out of state and thought I was helping my mother move to this place. "A place for mom" should be ashamed to recommend it.
We were misled by [name removed], sales of course. All the things that she told us my mother would get as part of her rent (which is going to be increased in January) were not in fact included. She downright lied to family members that live nearby and myself.
I ate with mom a few times. It was ok. Unfortunately, they do not offer diabetic meals. My mom buys groceries and cooks for herself. And no they dont give her a discount for not eating their food. Speaking of food, when she did eat at the dining hall when I visited, they told us to get there early, and the employees got to eat the leftovers. Glad it's not wasted but they dont take their time before they start eating!
The employees were are all very nice.
We were told that a corporate executive would see my mom to discuss our concerns, this hasn't happened.
Personally, I feel I failed my mom in a big way. Though I live far away, other family members checked the place out. Looks can be deceiving folks. Read the rental agreement carefully. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend Brookdale Cedar Springs.

Lynn Easterwood was very warm, knowledgeable and friendly. The staff seemed to enjoy their jobs and knew the residents by name. The residents seemed happy. The food was appealing. All of this was good. Cedar Springs definitely seemed older and some areas especially need updating. Recarpeting the halls with one continuous new carpet would do wonders in updating. The final decision is not mine. I am gathering info for my sister and there is a lot to like here
