About the facility Avenue 81
Avenue 81 is an upscale senior living community complete with a contemporary building design. Seniors at Avenue 81 can enjoy a perfect balance between quality care and luxurious amenities in the suburban area of Overland Park, Kansas.
At Avenue 81, residents can age in place with a continuum of care available on the same campus. Whether a senior is in need of memory care or assisted living, the community has round-the-clock care provided by certified caregivers and on-call licensed nursing staff for both. However, residents in independent living have security monitoring to help ensure their safety, as well. Residents can seek further care through local medical facilities thanks to the community’s scheduled transportation services.
While receiving on-site care, residents live in modern apartments with a variety of layouts and sizes ranging from studio to two-bedrooms. All residents can conveniently upkeep their rooms thanks to the weekly cleaning and laundry services. Beware of misleading information given by zealous salespeople anxious to make a sale
Being told transportation to church was no problem as long as it was within a 5 miles radius helped me decide to move into Avenue 81. After the move, however, I was told transportation was not provided on Sundays. This is a very egregious offense.

Friendly and Fantastic!
What our family likes the most about the Avenue 81 community is the meals that are prepared, the staff members working there as well as the different activities they have going on. We would recommend this community to other families based on the experience we have had so far.

Avenue 81- a very good option
My loved one is currently a resident at Avenue 81 and overall her experience at this facility has been good. I recommend Avenue 81 to others, but as with most other senior living places, the staff changes out. Avenue 81 has had an especially hard time with the Director of Activities and the top nurses. The CNA's at Avenue are really really good. They have a Chef that organizes the kitchen, therefore, the food is fantastic.

Our family had an in person tour and it overall was a nice tour experience. The community seemed fairly new, but we just got a cold feeling to it compared to others we had looked at. We did like how it had a underground parking garage, but it sits right off a very busy street with constant traffic. Also it looks more like independent living whereas we were needed more assisted living. However there were people constantly coming and going.

They keep the facility very clean. If there are unpleasant odors they clean them up immediately. Other places I've visited an odor is prevalent and unlikely to go away. They will call me with any problems and willing to work them out. This facility is very expensive and hopefully the service will keep up with the cost!

This facility had a modern contemporary, almost cosmopolitan feel and look to it. Uplifting and not stuffy. That stood out to us. Sales, Administrative, Dining and Medical/Assistant staff were communicative and cooperative. Always willing to discuss needs promptly and courteously. Activities are offered daily. Housekeeping is one to two times a week. The overall cleanliness of the facility was excellent. I would recommend them to family and friends.

a nice community
Our loved one really likes all the different activities they have going on there - they take the residents our weekly on shopping and grocery trips. They watch all of the Chiefs football games together and he has started going to their gym and doing different exercises classes, and they have social happy hours. Plenty of opportunities to stay involved. He really likes all the people there and based on our experience so far we would recommend Avenue 81 to other families.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Their patient care, nursing and Drs. Now that I look back I wish they would of offered 24 hour nursing care. I would of paid extra to get it but didn't realize that is what we needed until it was to late. We needed better patient care. I want to add that [name removed] was definitely a asset to the community. She had quit about halfway through our stay there. We were lost without her. [name removed] was very helpful and I trusted her but after it was to late. She did help us finalize everything. Doesn't matter about the name. I toured Avenue 81, and it was our second choice. We had a great tour experience and first impression.

a really great community
it's really a great community, my mom likes it here. they're friendly and it's small, so it feels more like a home. you get to know all the residents. the facility itself is also very nice. the only thing that could use some improvement is the communication. it's good when I ask and they are very forthcoming; but I don't always know everything. maybe if my mom is doing fine they don't see a reason to contact me (and may not want to bother me), but I would appreciate more frequent updates without me having to ask. I'm also unsure if they've rehired a new activities director, they lost theirs a few weeks ago. so I'm unsure how many activities the residents are participating in.

What a wonderful place for my family!
Avenue 81 gives my loved ones a home life experience, and they've had the social ability to mingle with other residents so they don't feel like they're isolated. There are amenities where residents can visit a library or go to other food places/kiosks there in the facility. They have activities that keep their minds busy and give them a purpose. The place is spotless as well. My loved ones have been able to keep their pet, and they're able to get outside for fresh air and not have a claustrophobic atmosphere. The staff have been wonderful with them. Even with the pet's temperament and occasional accidents, they're just wonderful group of people. With my loved ones' memory problems and behaviors/confusion, they're so patient and directive. And they're so kind with my family. They treat my family like they would treat their family - very loving and caring. And they make my family feel at home.

I felt really good about the community. This community was a bit to far away from where I wanted my loved ones to be. They are still driving and we wanted them to be in an familiar area without the highway.
