An Independent Living Community provides residents the ability to continue to live their active lives while making sure their essential needs have been fulfilled. Basic needs such as meal preparation and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and leisure activities is maintained, allowing residents an opportunity to use their time as they choose, free from daily obligations. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to live among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and backgrounds. Typically consisting of a private living space and a full kitchen, these communities offer residences with many of the amenities of apartment life but without the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and more time can be spent with them with the basic maintenance of daily chores out of the way. While policies differ between locations, a number of residences allow pets as well. If medical or nursing assistance is desired, residents may always utilize the services of independent caregivers. There are a variety of costs and benefits to consider when selecting an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these amenities are covered in your care plan: field trips, laundry, initial assessment fee, Waiting list deposit, housekeeping, wellness program, move-in fee, and transportation. The luxuries associated with independent living include community activities, restaurant-style dining hall, healthcare center, golf course, concierge services, security guards, fitness center & swimming pool, and game/TV room.
