The experience has been excellent so far. It is a very active community and they encourage the residents to go to the activities. They have things like card games, exercise classes, bird feeders, etc. My mother says the food is like a 5 star restaurant and she really likes it. The cost is reasonable for what is provided. My mother was apprehensive of the big change, but with where she is at we feel confident that she is in good hands. There are 2 residents here who she had been friends with years ago so that has also made her feel more comfortable. Overall I would recommend The Charleston Senior Community to others looking.... Everyone down there has been extremely helpful. Everyone is pleasant. The food is outstanding. They have a lot of activities. But the care is the most important thing. And everyone really takes care of my loved one, a heck of a lot better than I was able to do. They're doing a good job with the Covid situation, checking people in and being on top of everything. I would highly recommend them.
The people are the best part of this community. They are helpful, pleasant, and caring. My loved one has been in since June and the staff have all be positive to work with. The community will try and work with dietary restrictions. The activities and some food options are being limited due to the pandemic.
I was impressed with everything about The Charleston other than the price. If I had to do it over again I might go with them, they insisted on memory care on the get go for my loved which ended up being what was needed.
I would highly recommend this community to those that have parents that need this type of care or assistance. The community used to be a hotel and the rooms have their own bathrooms with a walk in shower. There are rooms available that have a bathtub.
Other than the outside, the community is pretty clean. Some of the staff is friendly and some not so much. We felt the staff was under-trained and underpaid. It seemed like in the memory care area, there was not much in the way of activities. They seemed to place the residents in the common areas and turn on the TV and that was it. In the beginning, they would do things like bring in outside entertainment, but as time went on this dwindled. The community seemed like an ok value since they were a little cheaper than other places in the area, however we did not think there was enough attention given to the residents.
I have found The Charleston to be a very responsive and proactive community. They are very good at communicating with families. I have had no issues. The food is hit or miss. My mom is a bit of a picky eater. Room sizes are good.
Without a doubt more welcoming than any others. Changed my feelings about senior care. I am actually excited for my mom's new adventure. Thank you Charleston for making this transition so positive.
Very nice facility with impressive amenities. Very professional staff - I would recommend them to anyone needing an assisted living situation.
I am very appreciative to The Charleston. This was my father's first home after his major stroke. Everyone here is quite loving and patient. There are plenty activities and the facility is very clean.
Father recently admitted facility staff were all very pleasant, courteous, and professional. Every question asked was answered polity and completely.
My mother resides at this residence for a year and a half. The rooms are spacious with large windows and the dining area is attractive with fresh flowers on a regular basis. A lot of the aides are lovely and enjoy working with the elderly. About 20% are uncaring, lazy and unsympathetic. To the point of putting the residents at risk. This has happened to my mother on more than one occasion. Even when I filed a complaint those aides continued their employment. They don’t care about excellence, just numbers ( which are also lacking) The executive director stays in his office and only knows the residents on paper or he deals with their families. He is never seen with residents except on promotional videos and commercials. In fact when my mother passed away, we got many condolences from aides, therapists and other residents but none from the administration. No card, no call, no email. They are primarily concerned about re filling the rooms. Also, when the cost and level of care rises, the actual level of care remains the same which is not initially explained to the residents and their families. Even the aides have no idea what level of care each resident is on. If you have a loved one that doesn’t have great needs and can get around on their own, it might be a pick for you. Otherwise, I don’t recommend this place.
There are some good people working there, but most of the staff on the memory care unit sit around and socialize with each other instead of interacting with the residents. And when you ask the staff a question, a lot of them don't know anything. And when you try to find their supervisor, he is no where to be found.
My mom and the rest of the family were very impressed with the facility and staff of Charleston Senior Community. My mom became very ill right before she moved, but Charleston staff stepped up immediately to give her the care she needed. They were very responsive and made the transition so calming and reassuring to all of us. I would highly recommend this community!
Very nice facility. Clean and lots of daily activities for the residents. I was on a fact finding mission to understand costs and if this is a possible spot for a dear friend. I do thing he will be happy here.
This is a private facility and thought it would be a little more better in the sense of having funds to facilitate activities and quality of care for residents. My family member is in memory care. There are less than 20 people up there. THey can't keep whose clothes go to who after washing them. Between the residents and employees they steal. How do you steal a lamp out of someone's room and not think it would be missed or if you took it out for safety reasons you could inform the family. I asked about it and haven't seen the return of it yet. He has dementia but is still aware to a degree what is going on. Again, I expected better they give a good presentation up front but once in there something different. Should not be when you are paying over 3k a month!
Really a nice place. They have so much to offer. This is my top pick so far. Clean no smells and my top pick, however the cost is the most expensive.
My mother moved in here 5 months ago. The care here varies quite a bit. I would suggest this place for ambulatory seniors who are still able to care for themselves. There are some very nice aides and occasionally some that don’t care much. We were misinformed about the ratio of aides per resident ( which includes med techs, and the nurses in the nurses station). By law I believe they have the legal amount necessary but not nearly enough for what a lot of residents need. My mom has waited several hours on occasion to be assisted. Luckily for my mom I visit her every day and handle things that would never be dealt with. And being here every day, I’ve never seen the facility director out of his office. Never in the dining room, residents rooms or anywhere talking to the residents.
Very clean, beautiful facility. Staff very involved and professional
The tour went very well. There is a wide range of activities to choose from and be involved with. The rooms are very accommodating. There are numerous sitting areas to either watch television or areas designated to just sit and talk/socialize with others. The dining area is very large with many tables. The staff was friendly.
