MORAL to all looking for an assisted living place for a loved one: DO get a reference from a friend or family member with experience at the place being considered, BUT make sure there’s not been a management or ownership change since the time of the referral. Can make a huge difference (good or bad). My husband was at Lighthouse a year and a half. For the first 13 months it was good. I attribute that to the very young, but impressively capable and caring day-to-day manager. I found her care approach to be much different and better than that of the owner, but the owner mostly left things to the manager, to my husband’s benefit. Subsequent to that manager’s departure the care became very poor, with issues like my husband not being given a drink when very thirsty, and him not being helped to and from bed on the bedrest schedule provided by his nurse (not part of Lighthouse). I was forced to move my husband to another assisted living place after unsuccessful work with owner.
