My parents are currently residents at Discovery Village at the West End. Everything at this facility has been good for them so far. I personally think that they should be in Assisted Living, but they were set on Independent Living and that's where they are. I do wonder how "engaged" the administration staff are with my parents, but being in Independent Living they aren't going to get the help and assistance of the staff that they would in Assisted Living. I've never had the food, but I've read the menus and what I've seen has looked terrific but I have not eaten there. My parents seem to like the food. They are also constantly doing events and daily trips for the residents. The residents and staff seem very polite. I would recommend Discovery Village at the West End to others.

Peace of mind for yoru family
The director and people in the office were amazing. They were very helpful. If I ever had a question, issue, or concern, I could text the director. And any issues would be addressed by the next day. There were two nurses on the station per floor, but they seemed to be stretched thin around the time we left. When we first arrived, the care was amazing. The care staff was very friendly, and they treated my mom like family. The staff in the dining area were always friendly as well. They were so courteous and respectful. However, the food was terrible (high in salt, bland, not much nutritional value). It was expensive for the apartment, but the care was good overall.

Would recommend, good place for loved ones
When we are able to speak with our loved one overall she seems happy with the meals and so far this community has been exceeding all expectation's. Our loved ones previous community ended up badly. She hasn't gone to many activities as of yet, but has gone to a couple of happy hours. It is in a great location which is very nice, it is close by some stores that the residents can go shop at.

Discovery Village was a pretty good fit for my loved one
The people at the front desk were very friendly. They were without activities for a while due to the loss of an activity director, however since a new one has been hired it is picking back up but my loved one does not participate in the activities.

Try It, you'll like it - Discovery Village
I think you have to go at it with a positive attitude, and realize there are other great people you're around and living near. But if you're willing to participate and a be apart of things, you'll love it here. I absolutely love living here. The staff is very helpful. There are lots of activities and things to do. The cost seems reasonable for what you get. It's worth every penny for me. It meets all my needs, and I'm loving it.

Place is a Total Joke - Horrible Experience
Terrible services - patients are ignored and are over charged for things like bed pads that are never used. Patient therapy was a joke - total joke. A group of patients are taken to a large room (many in wheel chairs) and then someone stands up and does their physical therapy instruction. Can never find a nurse on duty - this happened to our relative and the patient in the other bed. We pulled our loved one from the facility.

Family beware and watch your loved one if you use this facility
Facility is seems nice from the outside- seems like a lot of employee turn over in the last 1 and 1/2 years. Have seen patients sitting with no shoes, have seen patients sitting with no supervision. Some of the management seem uncaring to the patients and family! Have had problems with the facility and the director-the director even reported incorrect information! Have had to contact the state to investigate the facility for possible violations. Still not sure how a patient could leave the facility and no one know how- the facility did not know the patient was missing until the police brought the patient back and knocked on the door.

New, clean facility, but lacking in many ways
Our family experienced both the Assisted Living and the Memory Care units. While the facility building is new and pretty, we felt the staff were inexperienced and unreliable and management was not empathetic to patients and families. A few of our brief thoughts over a few months were: -Incorrect ratio of medicine technicians to residents/patients. Caused hour delays in time sensitive medications being delivered, even when the facility was not filled to capacity. -Residents voices were ignored, no follow up after resident feedback meetings. -Kitchen/Food was subpar. Often did not post menu. -Little to no activities for memory care residents. Routinely would just see staff sitting and watching tv with residents as the major activity for the day. -The facility was very concerned with appearances, and not so much resident care and relations. Overall it's a clean, new facility that smelled good and offered some 'fancy' meals and activities for Assisted Living residents. But the minuses outweighed the pluses for us.

Respite care
My husband spent a week in memory care. He was safe, well fed and entertained. The staff placed a call to my cell twice so I could talk to him while I was away. I would use The Crossings again.

A Place for Mom has scored Discovery Village at the West End 8.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. To conduct a complete investigation, seniors and their families should:

  • Tour any listed location to confirm the accuracy of the community description
  • Confirm that the community offers services that are required for the senior’s specific needs and budget
  • Check additional licensing and state audit information

If you become aware of any information that should be updated or noted, please contact A Place for Mom. A Place for Mom uses the term “assisted living” to indicate that the community provides some level of assistance with daily living activities. It does not indicate that the facility meets official state requirements for level of care.
