My loved one was on a catheter for a long time. He got off of it and I left town for a while. No one ever checked on him and he ended up being full of water and his legs were very swollen. Things were good at the facility as long as I was checking on him every day, but if not, they were not doing their job. I would not recommend to others looking.

Wonderful care! Like a family. Very personal care. Facility always clean and beautiful. When problems arise. staff listens and makes adjustments. Only need is slight improvement to staff communication on transfer of care from person-to-person or shift changes.

Interesting that none of the reviews show dates... My mother-in-law lived here for five years beginning in 2014. The facility was wonderful and she was well cared for until about the last year. After suddenly being sent to the ER three weeks ago with a high fever and shallow breathing, it was determined she had less than 25% cardiac output. She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and placed in hospice care within 8 days of being in the hospital. She never had heart issues before or any reports of CHF despite the fact that she was being under the care of the resident physician at Altenheim. Upon her return to Altenheim with hospice directions, it became clear that the facility was not prepared to handle her level of care. Due to this, her daughter and I spent many hours with her in her room at all hours and experienced incompetence at frightening levels. Previously, she was able to come down to the first floor to visit with us... The well-maintained part of the facility that is truly beautiful. But the reality is that bathroom and kitchen floors were mopped with some sort of oily substance resulting in slip and falls (mine in particular). We witnessed a potential elopement from the property of a resident with a walker wandering down the sidewalk of the main street out front. We would come in to find my MIL covered in food and spilled coffee from being left alone to feed herself in bed despite our and her hospice nurse's repeated directions otherwise. My MIL never received consistent care in those two weeks due to lack of communication among staff - some of whom did not even know what hospice meant as I learned when a staff member who, upon being told my MIL went to a hospice house, asked me if she was coming back to Altenheim. And the list goes on and on. The final insult was when the bed at a hospice house became available for my MIL and the administration bright my SIL to a room and yelled at her for 15 minutes. She was accused of fraud and not communicating with the staff about her concerns. She was told she would be sued for not giving 30 days notice (for a hospice move!?!?). She was told she owed a bunch of money and never paid the bill on time. All of this to a woman who is coping with the fact that her mother is about to die. And none of it is true. There are some caring people who work at Altenheim - and I applaud them for doing everything they can. But the administration here should be ashamed of themselves for their lack of leadership.
