Assisted living facilities offer social interaction, supervision, and personal care to people who are around 65 years old. The types of service offered often involve aid with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, facilities may offer skilled nursing, hospice, or Alzheimer's care. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living facility is around $66,000 . Washington has a number of provisions related to this kind of facility. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) regulates this facility type. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include facilities choose to provide certain health support services, administration of health care treatments, basic personal care services, and promote each resident's health, safety, and well-being consistent with the resident negotiated care plan. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as an initial comprehensive exam including medical history , level of personal care needs, significant known behaviors or symptoms that may cause concern or require special care, and preferences regarding other issues important to the resident applicant. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program--Community Options Program Entry System (COPES).This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, residents must state whether they will receive medication assistance or medication administration services, and medication administration provided through nurse delegation. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible, practitioner, a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, and not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast . Staff are required to obtain training in a variety of fields. These areas include safety training (3 hours), orientation (2 hours), specialty training, and nurse delegation and core diabetes.
