Assisted living communities provide residential communities and aid to your loved one who need support with everyday activities such as dressing or self-administering medication. Assisted living communities frequently offer support with the activities of daily life, opportunities for social activity, and assistance with appointments and transportation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, nursing care, or hospice. Ohio has a number of stipulations related to this type of community. Ohio Department of Health supervises this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication administration, activities, assistance with self-administration of medication, and intermittent nursing services. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as psychological history, health history, medication review, and cognitive status review. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assistance organizing medication, reminders, and observation. Staff members obtain training in a variety of fields. These areas include securing emergency assistance, job responsibilities, community procedures, and residents rights. In total, there can be no more than 4 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 8 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare.
