Assisted living communities offer regular social events and apartment style housing as well as personalized assistance. The services offered often involve support with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. In select cases, communities may offer skilled nursing, respite, or “aging in place”. These include: cardiopulmonary resuscitation, adult abuse and neglect , the aging process, and assistance with instrumental activities of daily living. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include storing the medication in a manner that is accessible to the resident, reminding the resident to take medications, and opening the dosage packaging or medication container. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as functional needs assessment and assessment must be updated to meet the ongoing needs of the resident. Public assistance is available through state Assistance programs for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
