Assisted living communities provide organized living communities and aid to people who might require help with everyday activities such as preparing meals or showering. Services offered often include assistance with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In certain instances, communities may provide Alzheimer’s care, respite, or “aging in place”. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 49,200. The state of Indiana has specific statutes related to this type of community. Indiana State Department of Health supervises this community type. Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program. Staff must obtain education in a number of areas. These areas include records, fire and disaster preparedness, specific position, and ethical considerations. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met.
